Chapter 26 Mine

He turned to the group inside the room and asked, “Does this count?”

“It counts.”

“Oh my god.”

“That’s insanely hot.”

He nodded. “It’s late. I’m taking her home.”

With that, he picked her up and shot Vincent a cold look. “She’s mine. Keep your thoughts to yourself.”

“I’m not going back,” Arden protested, punching lightly at his chest.

Dorian leaned in and sniffed, frowning. “You can’t even handle alcohol, and you still drink.”

“None of your business.”

He did not bother arguing with a tipsy woman. “Stop squirming. We’re going home.”

Lucien opened the car door. Dorian placed Arden in the back seat, fastened her seat belt, then got in himself and gave a low instruction. “Check that man thoroughly.”

“Understood.”

In the car, Arden was still complaining. “Why were you so controlling? Why wouldn’t you let me hug him?”

Dorian had been leaning back. He straightened and turned toward her, eyes narrowing. “What, didn’t get to hug him and now you’re disappointed?”

Arden actually thought about it, then nodded. “He really was handsome. And he looked gentle.”

Dorian went silent. “Arden,” he said coldly, “don’t forget you’re married.”

Her lips were red from the drink. He brushed his thumb over them again, unhurried. “And tell me, is he better looking than your husband?”

She clicked her tongue. “This is a contract marriage.”

Then she leaned closer and whispered, “And I can’t call you honey. I have to call you Mr. Vale, or you’ll get upset.”

Lucien burst out laughing from the driver’s seat. Dorian shot him a look through the rearview mirror. Lucien immediately stiffened. “Not funny.”

Arden kept mumbling. “You said we wouldn’t interfere with each other. So if I flirt with handsome guys, that’s none of his business, right?”

He wished.

“You’re not allowed to hug other men,” Dorian said flatly.

She studied him seriously. “You can flirt with other women, take them to the hospital, defend them. Why can’t I hug a guy? You’re really unfair.”

After saying that, she leaned against the window and fell asleep. When they reached Silverbay Villa, she woke up on her own and got out of the car.

The cool summer breeze cleared her head a little. Seeing Dorian, she greeted him politely, “Good evening, Mr. Vale.”

Dorian fell silent.

“You brought me back?”

“Did you expect to fly home?”

Dorian asked, “Can you still walk?”

“Of course. I’m not drunk.”

She brushed back her hair and headed inside. Martha greeted them as they entered. Arden asked for a cup of warm milk.

She sat on the sofa, rubbing her temples. Dorian walked over.

Seeing him approach, she shifted away. The sofa was wide, but he deliberately squeezed in beside her.

She was speechless.

“Do you know that man from earlier?”

“Which one?”

“The one at the bar.”

She shook her head. “No.”

He studied her. “Then why were you trying to hug him?”

“It was a game,” she replied coolly. “You went wild at your birthday party. Did I say anything?”

“Did I ever say you couldn’t?”

He yanked off his tie and tossed it onto the sofa.

“You did,” she replied calmly, just as Martha brought the milk over. Arden took a sip, eyes closing in satisfaction.

“He’s not a good person. Stay away from him if you see him again.”

She drank her milk and did not answer.

He tapped the table. “Did you hear me?”

“I think he seems fine.”

His patience snapped. “Arden, so now you don’t listen to a word I say?”

She wiped her mouth and stood. “I’m twenty–one, not a child. Making friends is my choice. You don’t get to interfere. And Mr. Vale, we just made it legal. I don’t interfere with you and other women. You don’t interfere with me finding handsome men.”

She went upstairs.

“Stop.”

She turned back. “Do you need something, Mr. Vale?”

He leaned back on the sofa, legs crossed, fingers rubbing the ring on his hand. “Move back into the master bedroom tonight.”

She looked at him like he had lost his mind. “If you’re uncomfortable, we should keep sleeping separately.”

She went into the guest room. Dorian did not argue. He told Martha to restore the master bedroom to how it had been before and remove all the bedding from the guest room.

When Arden came out of the shower and saw the bare bed, she froze.
