Eugenia replied immediately. “Did Dorian threaten you and refuse to let you go? That’s our company. You’re the CEO’s wife. Half of those shares will be yours one day. It’s settled. You’re going.”

Theresa added, “Exactly. Didn’t you study design and planning? Vale Group is the strongest in that field here. You’ll learn a lot. Even if you return to Wynn Group someday, it’ll be a huge help.”

Eugenia followed up. “You’ll start in a couple of days. If Vale Group dares not hire you, I’ll go there myself and back you up.”

Seeing how kind they were, Arden couldn’t bring herself to refuse again.

Dorian watched her type furiously for a while, then lie back down, even inching away from him, clearly trying to keep distance. He wasn’t having it.

“Can’t sleep?” Dorian asked as he pressed close from behind. “Then maybe we do something else.”

It was the first time Arden had ever been this close to him while fully awake, sharing a bed.

He was so warm. He spoke deliberately close to her ear, his breath brushing her earlobe and sending a shiver through her.

She froze. “I want to sleep.”

“You’re working tomorrow,” she added quickly. “You should rest.”

His hand slid to her waist, then under the hem of her sleep shirt.

“It’s still early,” he murmured. “We have time.”

Maybe it was because of Vincent’s provocation. Either way, that night, Dorian wanted Arden badly. His mind replayed the image of her flushed face, her eyes glowing as she asked Vincent, “Can I hug you?”

Possessiveness surged. He leaned close to her ear. “From now on, don’t hug other men.”

Arden mumbled a vague agreement. Ever since she stopped expecting love or validation from him, she treated moments like this simply as indulgence. A luxury without cost.

After all, Dorian was desired by countless women, with his sculpted physique, defined abs, and that lean, powerful build that made him one of the most sought–after men in the city.

Even if she divorced him in a couple of years, she wouldn’t be losing out. Each time, she let herself enjoy it, relaxed into it, and found pleasure in return.

Dorian gathered her into his arms and soon followed. At nine the next morning, Arden arrived punctually at Vale Group headquarters for her interview.

There were many candidates. The competition was fierce. By the time interviews ended, it was already

noon.

The HR manager knocked on Dorian’s office door with a stack of resumes. Lucien opened the door.

The manager greeted nervously, “Mr. Vale.”

“Speak,” Dorian said without looking up.

“The planning department interviews today. Do you have any instructions?”

He always asked. He was afraid of executives parachuting acquaintances into the company.

“No,” Dorian replied flatly.

The manager relaxed. Once he left, Lucien reminded him, “Sir, Mrs. Vale is on the list. Should I say something?”

Dorian finally looked up and flipped through the resumes. Arden’s name was there.

He leaned back. “Let them go through the normal process. See if Arden makes it.”

“If she doesn’t,” he added, “then intervene.”

He was tired of the constant pressure from his family. If Arden wasn’t hired, his phone would never stop ringing.

As Arden exited the building, she saw Vivienne step out of a luxury car, sunglasses on, dressed flamboyantly.

Vivienne froze when she saw her and walked over.

“Arden,” Vivienne said, “you still haven’t given up on Dorian? You’re even applying at Vale Group?”

Arden didn’t want to engage. Vivienne blocked her path. “I brought Dorian lunch.”

“Oh,” Arden replied with a bright smile. “Then enjoy your meal together.”

She added lightly, “I hope you win him over soon.”

Vivienne was thrown off. Why was Arden suddenly so generous?
