Chapter 283 On Command
“Hurry up and get her
get her up here.”
Lucien hung up and waited for a reply.
Warren glanced nervously at Arden. This girl… She was clearly a VIP. The CEO actually cared.
“Yes, understood.”
Warren ended the call and walked out.
Finished
Bonnie was still ranting. “You set me up! You made me go in there on purpose so I’d get yelled at!”
Arden raised her voice, “You insisted on going. I gave you the chance. If you’d just said no, would you have been yelled at?”
Warren stepped out just in time, his tone respectful. “Arden, the CEO needs you in his office. Mr. Vale isked for you.”
Then, coldly to Bonnie, “You. My office. Now. Since when is sobbing during work hours acceptable?”
The whole office got the message loud and clear. Arden? Clearly on the rise.
Bonnie? Finished.
she’d been throwing her weight around for years as a senior staff member. People were glad to see her get I taste of her own medicine.
Whispers rippled through the room.
Did you hear? Mr. Vale asked for Arden. And Bonnie still thinks she’s the victim? She went in, got chewed out, came back crying, then yelled at Arden like it was her fault.”
Did
you see how Warren spoke to Arden? Smiling and polite. He doesn’t smile when he talks to us. To tiff with us. Mr. Vale must’ve given the order.”
Arden stayed silent. Warren saw her still hesitating and gently urged her. “Arden, go on. It’s urgent.”
Arden gave Bonnie one last glance–tear–streaked and unhinged–then finally headed up to the 28th floor.
Lucien had practically been pacing in front of the elevator,
The moment he saw Arden step out, he exhaled like someone had been holding his lungs hostage. “There you are–uh, Ms. Wynn.”
“Mm. What does your boss need from me?”
“You’ll have to ask him.”
“He’s not mad, is he?”

Lucien shook his head fast. “Nope. Not at all
“Really?”
“Really”
Honestly, Lucien wanted to say, “If you just stayed by the boss’s side 24/7, he’d be smiling 24/7
He knocked. A voice inside said, “Come in.”
Arden walked in and paused beside the desk, her gaze instinctively dropping to Dorian’s abdomen.
He wore a black dress shirt and sweater. Nothing visible. He sat up straight. His face looked okay, though his lips were still a little pale.
She greeted, “Mr. Vale.”
That voice. That tone. Dorian’s brow relaxed immediately–but he still kept his head down, pen in hand, reviewing files. His reply was cool.
“Mm.”
Arden asked, “Is there something you needed from me?”
Dorian looked up and saw her standing stiffly. He capped his
pen. “Sit.”
“I’ll stand. If you’ve got something to say, go ahead.”
Her tone was calm, eyes cold. Professional. Like she was reporting to a manager.
“Your pasta last night were good.”
Arden blinked. Pasta? That plain, simple bowl of noodles is getting praise from a guy raised on caviar and truffle oil?
He was acting weird.
She replied dryly, “Thank you, Mr. Vale.”
“Ethan’s out for a while. You’ll take over his role–temporarily filling in as my assistant.”
“You want me to be your assistant?”
“Mm. Personal assistant. You’ll be in charge of meals, scheduling, travel. By my side at all times.”
She stared at him, trying to decipher his real motive. He, of course, gave away nothing.
She asked again. “You’re saying… I’m your personal assistant?”
“Correct.”
“Mr. Vale, maybe you’ve got the wrong person?”
“No mistake I want you.”

She gave him a look. She’d never seen someone so shameless. No way!
Tll triple your salary. Just for one month. When Ethan returns from paternity leave, you can go back to your project team.”
“Still no.
His eyes darkened. I’m injured. I need constant care?
“You’ve got guards, maids, and secretaries. Don’t tell me you’re short–staffed
‘None of them are you.”
She actually laughed. “Mr. Vale, are you sure I’m the one you want taking care of you?
‘Absolutely.”
And how did you come to that conclusion?”
You stayed with me that night, remember? Watched over me until I was past the critical stage.”
That was a coincidence.”
I’m the CEO. This is a work assignment.”
Arden stared at him.
What did she do to make him this mad–bad enough to stick her with a ‘reassignment that felt more like punishment? She was just a cog in the machine. He was the guy at the top. And when the boss gives orders you don’t get to say no.
