Dorian’s gaze swept to where her arm was looped through Caleb’s. He let out a short laugh. “You trust your brother that much?”

“Who else am I supposed to trust? You?”

“Caleb, why aren’t you saying anything?” Dorian looked over. “Tell her what’s really going on.”

Caleb didn’t even bother glancing his way. “If we weren’t old friends, it’d be more than just a punch.”

Dorian rolled his tongue against the inside of his cheek. His face stung.

He looked at Arden. “You know what happened to the last guy who laid hands on me?”

Caleb scoffed. The moment he saw Dorian trying to intimidate his sister, his voice went cold. “Don’t try to scare her, Dorian. Just because she’s not confrontational doesn’t mean she’ll back down.”

“Scare her? I could never,” Dorian said, smiling in that dangerous, too–handsome way. “The last guy who hit me lost a hand. Had his teeth knocked out too.”

Arden instantly stepped in front of Caleb. “Don’t you dare touch him.”

“Arden,” Caleb gently pulled her aside, completely unimpressed by Dorian’s posturing. “He’s not gonna lay a finger on me. Don’t worry.”

“But he’s got a bunch of bodyguards, and probably more hiding nearby.”

She glanced around nervously.

Caleb ruffled her hair. “You silly girl.”

The two stood close, whispering to each other like Dorian wasn’t even there.

Dorian was speechless. Arden would never talk to him like that.

“Caleb, almost forgot to tell you. Arden’s my personal assistant now. That means she’s required to stay with me 24/7. She’s going back to Silverbay Villa with me tonight, not to your place.”

Caleb frowned. “Personal assistant?”

He pulled Arden behind him, reaching for the car door. Dorian stepped in front of it. “What, you gonna fight me for her?”

His eyes were full of possessiveness. “You know me, Caleb. I never lose when I want something. Doesn’t matter if it’s a thing… or a person. I’m warning you nicely, because I still consider you one of my own.”

Then Dorian turned to Arden and pointed to the corner of his mouth. “See this? Your brother did that. You’re coming back with me to help patch me up.”

“Dorian, stop pushing it!” Caleb slapped a hand down on Dorian’s wrist, trying to shove it away.

But Dorian just raised his hand.

A dozen men in black suddenly stepped out of the shadows, surrounding the three of them in seconds.

Arden instantly recognized Colton and Kade.

They were all built like linebackers and had the face of trouble. As they closed in, Arden stared at Dorian. “What the hell is this? You brought backup to beat up us?”

“You come with me quietly, and Caleb walks away fine. Otherwise…” He shrugged, “I can’t make promises.”

Caleb actually laughed. This bastard. Can’t get Arden to leave with him, so now he’s playing dirty?

“Arden, get in the car. I’ll handle it.”

He tried pushing her into the backseat. Dorian didn’t wait, reaching over to grab Arden’s wrist and pull her to his side. “Come here.”

Arden panicked. She was really worried Dorian might have his guys hurt Caleb,

She turned quickly, “Caleb, just go. He won’t touch me, I promise. Please, just go.”

“Arden, I’m fine. Come with me.”

“There’s too many of them. We can’t fight them off. Go home, I’ll text you. If you get hurt, Mom’s gonna worry, and Wynn Group needs you. You can’t take that risk.”

She pushed Caleb into the car.

Then she turned to Dorian with fury in her eyes. “I’ll go with you. Now tell them to back off. If you lay one finger on my brother, I swear we’re done.”

Dorian had never planned on actually hurting anyone. Especially not Caleb. They were brothers by blood and battle.

All he wanted was to take Arden back to Silverbay Villa. He missed her.

He missed having her next to him, always within reach. He didn’t want to live like a starving man anymore.

With a small wave of his hand, the guards scattered, disappearing into the shadows again.

Caleb knew Dorian wasn’t going to make a move. He just wanted to take his sister.

Still, that didn’t mean he forgave him.

Sitting behind the wheel, Caleb rolled down the window. “I don’t know what your game is, taking Arden back to Silverbay Villa. But I’m telling you now–don’t touch her. You pull crap like this, forcing her, and all you’ll do is push her further away. You’ll never get close to her heart.

“She’s already cut you out of her world. Keep this up, and one day, she’ll cut you off for good.

“She doesn’t want you anymore.

“That night she stayed with you through the worst of it, that wasn’t love. That was just kindness. She would’ve done the same for anyone who treated her decently.”
