Sienna glanced over and said, “Probably doesn’t trust you guys to keep things professional. Worried you’ll mess up the timeline chasing interns.”
Clark smirked and gave Arden a once–over. “Nah, I’m into women like Sienna. Classy. A little dangerous.”
“Shut up.”
It was only Arden’s second day in the office, but people had already sized her up. She had that soft, sweet first–love kind of face and came off way too polite, which led some to assume she was easy to push around. Bonnie was one of those people.
Sienna’s desk was right across from hers. When she saw Arden still standing there, she handed her a thick project folder. “Here. Cross–check the invoice with the numbers they submitted. Your computer’s hooked into the system already?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, I’ll send over the files we’re verifying.”
Arden took it with both hands. “Thanks, mentor.”
Sienna glanced at her again but didn’t say anything. She picked up her mug and headed to the break room for coffee.
Talia slid her chair over. “Good thing Sienna got assigned to you and not Bonnie.”
Arden flipped the file open and looked up. “Why?”
“Sienna’s cold, sure. Arrogant too. But girl’s got skills, and she’s straight–up. You’ll never have to wonder what she’s thinking.”
She leaned in a little. “Bonnie, though? She’s been here forever and acts like she runs the place. Always looking down on people.”
Arden hadn’t spent much time in the workplace before. She grew up pretty sheltered, so all of this felt new and kind of exciting.
Just then, Sienna passed by with her mug. Clark made a sound and raised a brow. “Aren’t you the one with the intern? Shouldn’t she be getting your coffee?”
Sienna kicked his chair without missing a beat and shot him a glare. She wasn’t the type to b
new hires. She’d been one once too.

Clark grinned and turned to Arden. “Come on, give me a shout.”

His desk was across from Talia’s, next to Sienna’s. Talia rolled her eyes. “Ugh, you only pull that line on the pretty ones. When Bonnie joined, you didn’t
say jack.”
Clark shrugged. “Depends on the vibe, doesn’t it?”
Good thing he hadn’t messed with Bonnie. That woman was no joke. Clark had taken a day off yesterday, so today was his first time seeing Arden. He’d spent the morning sneaking glances at her.
Talia had warned him earlier. “Back off, lover boy. Arden’s a good girl. Not your type.”
Clark got the message. He raised an eyebrow but kept his distance. Arden gave him a shy smile. She was a little unsure how to respond.
Clark and Sienna were company veterans, both four years in. Talia had joined later—this was her second year.
Clark came from money. Rolled in every day with a new ride–G–Wagon, BMW, you name it. He was also good at his job, but never stayed late.
Talia’s background was different. Her family had been middle–class until they struck gold- literally–thanks to a property buyout in Avalen. Overnight, they were multimillionaires.
Add to that, her parents were madly in love and spoiled her rotten. She was confident, quick- witted, and didn’t care much for career ladders.
As she put it “I work for the health insurance. Anything more is a bonus.”
Clark noticed Arden still standing there, looking awkward. He grinned, “What, still not gonna give me a cool nickname?”
Arden hesitated. “Uh… Big G?”
Clark blinked. “Big G? What happened to ‘Cool Clark‘ or something actually flattering?”
Arden looked flustered. “It just came out.”
He laughed. “Wanna call me mentor too? I can show you the ropes.”
Talia jumped in. “What, she gets a second mentor now?”
Arden looked dead serious. “I already have one. Can’t have two.”
Clark raised an eyebrow at her flushed cheeks. She’s honestly kind of adorable.

Arden glanced toward the break room. Sienna’s tall silhouette disappeared inside. She sat down. Okay, I got lucky. I’ve got someone showing me the ropes.
Sienna came back with her coffee and had barely taken two sips when Warren walked out of his office. “All project leads, meeting in ten minutes.”
He paused, looked at Arden, and told Sienna, “Bring Arden with you.”
Sienna nodded. “Follow me later.”
“Got it.”
Talia leaned over immediately. “Whoa, Warren’s really looking out for you.”
No sooner had she said that than Warren stepped out again. “Be prepared. Mr. Vale’s sitting in on the meeting.”
Suddenly, the whole office lit up with noise. “Mr. Vale? This is his first time sitting in on one of these, right?”
“Ugh, if I’d known, I would’ve worn something better.”
Bonnie quietly slipped away to the restroom to touch up her makeup. Only Talia and Sienna stayed cool.
Clark looked over at them and smirked. “Mr. Vale is showing up and you two aren’t even bothering with lip gloss?”
Sienna sipped her coffee. “Men like that aren’t reachable. Besides, some of us are born stunning. No need for extra effort.”
Talia nodded. “Exactly. My family’s got enough money to keep me comfy for three lifetimes. I don’t need to chase a rich guy to upgrade.”
