Arden kept her head down.

A second later, Warren stepped out again. “Arden, go make the coffee for Mr. Vale.”
Everyone else practically drooled over Dorian whenever he showed up. Arden was the only one who didn’t seem like she wanted to jump him, which made her the obvious choice.
Plus, she’d once shared an elevator ride with him. That alone had earned her coffee duty.
Bonnie had just returned from the restroom. “I know exactly how Mr. Vale takes his coffee. I’ll do it.”
Warren didn’t even look at her. “No need. Arden will do it.”
Bonnie shot Arden a look and clicked her heels back to her desk. Arden was stunned. Honestly, let her do it. Please.
Sienna grabbed her laptop and headed into the conference room. Talia nudged Arden to hurry up and follow. Everyone had just gotten seated when Dorian walked in, one hand in his pocket. Crisp shirt, tight tie, same intense vibe. Cold and commanding. Do not approach written all over his face.
Arden took the last seat, at the end of the table. As Dorian sat down at the head, he glanced at her.
Warren gave her a subtle nod. Arden got up and walked over. “What kind of coffee do you like, sir? Black, light, sugar?”
Lucien stepped in fast. “I’ll make it.”
Arden immediately nodded. “Sure,”
Dorian looked at Lucien. “Let her do it.”
Lucien nodded. Alright, boss. Whatever you say.
The
guy just wanted a cup of coffee made by his wife, and this was the only way to get it.
Dorian looked back at Arden. “You’re new?”
Wow, you’re really going to act like that. Okay.
“Yes. Started yesterday.”

Arden stared. Still not answering the sugar question. Fine. “Do you want it sweetened? Or just black?”
“Black.”
She turned and left for the break room. The office went silent. Warren looked over at Sienna, then turned to Dorian. “Shall we begin?”
“Not yet. Someone’s still missing.”
Warren was sharp. He was also surprised.
Dorian almost never attended these meetings. And brand–new hires like Arden had no business being in that room.
But here she was. Because Dorian had already spoken to her more than he had to anyone else.
Arden came back with the coffee and placed it in front of him, then quietly returned to her
seat.
Dorian waited until she opened her notebook before starting the meeting.
The Vale Group was focusing heavily on investment strategy lately, and Warren had divided his team into six project groups, each tracking a different potential investment.
Sienna’s group had picked up a biotech firm focused on cancer and tumor research. Vale Group was considering a major stake.
She’d just come back from a week–long business trip to evaluate the company. Today was her
summary report.
Arden had never been in a meeting like this. She paid attention to every word.
Dorian didn’t say much. He sat back and listened, occasionally asking a question–each one sharp, direct, and borderline ruthless.
He didn’t tolerate sloppy work. If your slide had a typo, he’d call you out right there, no sugar- coating.
Two project leads fumbled their presentations and looked like they were about to cry. Each team went up one by one, pitching their case.
Vale Group had its hands in just about everything, and if a project looked profitable, they’d throw money behind it.

When it was over and the meeting dismissed, Arden returned to her desk feeling something shift in her. For the first time, she had a sense of direction.
Everyone else cleared out, leaving just Dorian and Warren in the room. Warren felt a bead of sweat slide down his neck. He had no clue why Dorian hadn’t left yet.
“Do you have concerns about the project, sir?”
Dorian was clicking around on the computer. “Has Arden been assigned to a team?”
“Yes, she’s been placed with Sienna. She’s helping out with the biotech project.”
“You have instructions?”
“Nothing special. We’ll follow standard onboarding and evaluations.”
Warren hesitated. “Is she… related to you or something?”
Dorian stood, one hand in his pocket, and looked out at the open floor. Arden was at her desk, flipping through reports. He tugged at his tie. “No.”
Right. You’re just asking way too many questions for someone who’s not related.
New hires came through every month. Dorian didn’t ask about any of them.
But now he was walking out of the room, throwing a glance her way before heading up to the 28th floor. Sienna stayed busy. Her phone never stopped ringing and her fingers never stopped typing.
Arden wanted to help, but quickly realized she didn’t know how.
So she started asking, “Need anything?” Whether it was printing or dropping off files, she was on
Sienna was cold on the surface, all business, but everyone respected her. She was smart, fast, and didn’t take crap from anyone,
People knew not to mess with her.
