Before meeting Savannah, I shipped out all my belongings.

I tore up the last photo of us together.

My brother texted me–he’d cut his trip short and was on his way back.

I sent him the address where Savannah wanted to meet.

The same seafood restaurant.

The manager personally escorted me to a private lounge.

The moment he opened the door, I froze.

Two months ago, Ryan’s office had suddenly been redecorated.

He was intensely private–even I, his fiancée, wasn’t allowed to touch his personal space.

So I’d been surprised at the time.

“Why the sudden change?”

“You always said it felt too cold. I finally had time to fix it up. You don’t like it?”

“Did your boss decorate this?” I asked the manager.

“No, ma’am. The boss’s wife did.”

This was Ryan’s restaurant. My head snapped up instinctively.

Right then, the door swung open.

“The boss’s wife is here.”

The manager greeted her warmly as Savannah walked in.

Around her neck–glittering brilliantly–was the pink diamond necklace.

“Sorry, Ryan insisted on putting it on me before I left,” she said lightly.

The manager shot her an envious glance before ducking out and closing the door behind him.

Savannah never corrected him about her title.

“I know it’s expensive. I’m worried I’ll damage it if I take it off wrong.”

She stepped closer to me.

“Avia, could you help me take it off?”

I let out a cold laugh.

“Didn’t Ryan tell you? I don’t do hand–me–downs.”

Savannah blinked, then smiled gently.

“I’m sorry. Ryan never really talks to me about you two, so I didn’t know. I seem to keep messing up.”

Her gaze was calm, serene–no trace of provocation.

Which somehow made it even more infuriating.

“Are you trying to tell me Ryan loves *you*, and that *I’m* the mistress?”

Savannah’s face was the picture of innocence.

“I didn’t mean it like that.”

“But if my being here still bothers you, I’ll resign. I’ll tell Ryan as soon as I get back.”

I’d already made up my mind to leave. What they did after that was none of my business.

I can’t put up with her passive–aggressive little act.

“No need to make it complicated. I’m COO. You can submit your resignation to me right now. I’ll approve it immediately.”

Savannah frowned.

“But-”

Before she could finish, Ryan burst through the door. The manager trailed behind him, looking sheepish.

Ryan’s eyes were bloodshot–probably from drinking. He shoved me aside and pulled Savannah behind him.

He didn’t ask what happened. Didn’t wait for an explanation. Just screamed at me.

“I already told you–everything was *my* idea! Savannah has nothing to do with it! If you’ve got a problem, take it up with me! Why do you keep going after her?!”

I had an old injury in my lower back from a car accident–where I’d shielded “him* from the impact.

When he shoved me, I slammed into the edge of the table.

Tears sprang to my eyes from the pain.

“Ryan, you’re engaged. Don’t fight because of me,” Savannah murmured from behind him.

That seemed to flip a switch in his brain.

“Oh, so now that we’re engaged, you think you can do whatever you want?”

“If there’s no trust, no freedom–then what’s the point? Let’s just call off this wedding!”

I stared at him through my tears.

“Say that again.”

Ryan’s jaw clenched.

Savannah stepped between us.

“Stop fighting. This is all my fault. I never should have come back. Avia, I’ll do what you want–I’ll leave. Just stop pushing Ryan like this.”

“You’re not going anywhere!”

Ryan grabbed her hand tightly.

He glared at me.

“Avia, if you force Savannah to leave, then we’re done. The engagement’s off.”

He was so sure I couldn’t bear to leave him. Using it as a threat.

But he had no idea–I’d already let go.

“Fine.”

A deep, smooth voice echoed from the doorway.

“Here’s your deposit back. The engagement’s over.”
