Chapter 7
Finding Avia wasn’t hard.
Back then, she’d followed him here without hesitation–leaving behind every single family member. The only person she had any connection to was Leland Foster.
And now her brother was in town too. They had to be staying at the Foster estate.
Even though he didn’t want to face it, he came anyway.
He swallowed his pride and rang the doorbell. The butler didn’t even open the door.
“Miss Montgomery left with Mr. Foster for a business trip out of state. I believe he’s planning to propose.”
Ryan didn’t believe it.
Before they got engaged, he knew Avia and Leland were acquainted.
But she’d told him Leland was sharp–tongued, calculating, and intimidating.
She didn’t think highly of him. After the engagement, she’d even cut off contact voluntarily.
How could everything change overnight? How could she suddenly be with him–ready to *marry* him?
“You’re lying. She’s just using Leland to piss me off, isn’t she?
Just the other day–the day Leland showed up–Avia had still cared about him. She’d gone after Savannah because of
*him*.
There was no way she could move on this fast.
The butler looked at him like he was a lost cause, then pulled up a video on his phone.
On the screen, Leland was slipping a ring onto Avia’s finger.
Fireworks exploded across the sky. They embraced, smiling.
“Listen, buddy. You need to stop thinking the world revolves around you. It doesn’t. And no one’s going to waste their entire life just to spite you. What you *really* need to do right now is delete whatever trashy drama app you’ve been binge–watching.”
*Slam.*
The butler shut the window.

Chapter 7
Tallen leaves swirled in the wind. The sky opened up, pouring rain like it was mocking him.
Ryan stood outside, refusing to move. He let himself get drenched, like some kind of masochist.
His mind raced. Then, suddenly, it clicked,
He called his assistant and hired a professional media team to “accidentally” capture him standing in the rain, looking devastated.
They drafted a sob story and pushed it to entertainment outlets.
“You want to see who can make the bigger gesture?”
Leland gave her fireworks in the rain.
Fine. Ryan would throw away his pride and make sure “everyone* knew–make sure she heard–how he stood in the pouring rain trying to win her back.
With the help of paid trolls, the story hit the top of the local trending list that very night.
In the past, Avia couldn’t stand to see him suffer even a little. A scraped knee would make her eyes well up.
But this time? Avia didn’t come back. Didn’t even contact him.
“Is it not trending enough? Keep pushing it. Tag Leland Foster too!”
As much as he hated to admit it, Leland’s name had more pull than his.
The love triangle rumors even made it onto national trending topics.
But by the next evening, there was still no word from Avia.
Finally, Ryan collapsed.
When he woke up, he was in a hospital bed. But instead of Avia sitting anxiously by his side, there were two police officers standing there.
“We’ve received a report alleging that you misappropriated company funds and leaked classified national information. You are hereby summoned for investigation in accordance with the law.”
Next to them stood a lawyer Avia had hired.
She had seen the news he’d manufactured.
In fact, *because* she saw it, she changed her mind. She didn’t give him a chance to settle things privately or cover the losses. She went straight to the authorities.

“Doesn’t she have “anything” she wants to say to me?”
Ryan couldn’t accept it. He grabbed the lawyer’s sleeve, refusing to let go.
The lawyer’s face flickered with surprise.
“Miss Montgomery predicted you’d ask that.”
Under Ryan’s expectant gaze, the lawyer relayed Avia’s message.
“You’re annoying. Shut up.”
Turns out, when a woman stops loving you, she can be just as ruthless.
