Chapter 6
For safety, I moved back in with my parents.
They didn’t ask questions. Just silently supported every decision I made.
I knew they wouldn’t just sit there and take it.
But the counterattack that came? Even more shameless than I imagined.
The first wave hit online.
Several local gossip bloggers with decent followings all posted nearly identical “exposés” at the same time.
They painted this vivid picture of a “social–climbing son–in–law” who endured humiliation and mistreatment, only to be scorned by his wife’s family after she couldn’t have kids.
Subjected to emotional abuse by his wife, he finally found solace in “true love.”
They framed Julian as this tragic hero oppressed by a wealthy family, chasing real love.
Meanwhile, my family and I? Cold–hearted villains.
Right after that, Chloe’s burner social media account posted a long, dramatic “confession.”
No clue if she wrote it herself or had a PR team behind it.
In it, she claimed she and Julian were “true love who met at each other’s lowest points.”
Knew it was wrong, but couldn’t help falling for him.
She kept emphasizing how she “didn’t need a title, just wanted the baby to have a father,” while hinting that I was “twisted due to my own defects” and using my family’s wealth to “ruthlessly destroy her and her child.”
She even posted blurry screenshots, claiming she’d received harassing messages” and “threatening packages“-all pointing fingers at me.
Paid trolls flooded in, steering the narrative.
Suddenly, hashtags like “Feel Sorry for Chloe” and “The Sterlings Abuse Their Power” started spreading across. certain platforms.
Sophia was livid on the phone.
“They’re twisting everything! Trying to use public opinion to trap us!”

Chapter 6
I stared at those carefully woven lies on the screen and let out a cold laugh.
They were trying to play the victim card and smear my name to flip their absolute disadvantage–legally and morally.
“Sophia, take the evidence we prepped–the stuff showing Julian abused his position at the company, damaged company interests, and pocketed money.
Pick the parts that don’t involve core trade secrets and leak them.”
“Don’t go to big influencers. Find a few smaller, credible financial investigation bloggers. Let them post it as ‘justice
warriors.“”
Fight their sob story with hard evidence of corporate corruption.
The move worked.
When the image of a “devoted, tragic man” got linked to accusations like “embezzlement,” “conflict of interest,” and “falsifying records,” all those romantic PR pieces instantly looked pathetic.
Public opinion started splitting. More people began waking up.
They realized this wasn’t just a messy breakup.
This was criminal fraud.
Right in the middle of the online battle, I got a call from Julian–new number.
His voice wasn’t begging anymore. It was vicious. Desperate
“Amelia Sterling, you’re ruthless! You really wanna push me to the edge!”
“I’m just taking back what’s mine and making you pay for everything you’ve done.” My tone stayed flat.
“Pay?”
He let out a twisted laugh.
“You think this is over? Let me tell you something–if anything happens to Chloe or the baby, that’s on you and your family! Let’s see how you explain that to the public!”
“Are you threatening me, Julian?” My voice dropped, ice–cold. “Using your unborn child?“.
“So what if I am? Amelia, don’t push me! You back me into a corner, I’m capable of anything! I know where your parents live!”
The second he mentioned my parents, a chill shot up my spine.
Chapter 6
I could handle any attack aimed at me. But I would never tolerate anyone threatening my family.
“You touch a single hair on my parents‘ heads, and I promise you won’t just lose your company and your assets. I’ll make sure you and everything you care about burns to the ground. I mean it.”
I hung up immediately, sent the call recording to Sophia and our security team, and ramped up protection around my parents‘ home.
Julian had lost it. I had to prepare for the worst.
