Chapter 5
Alexander didn’t acknowledge Dominic’s greeting at all. He walked straight up to me and gave a slight nod. “Ms. Winters, we just detected an abnormal signal from your device.”
I nodded and handed him the phone.
“Yeah, it got dropped.”
Moore took the phone and examined it carefully. His expression grew serious. “The damage is extensive. Just the repair costs and replacement parts alone will run about seventy million dollars.”
His voice wasn’t loud, but it hit everyone in the room like a sledgehammer.
Elaine’s face went deathly pale, her lips trembling. “That’s… that’s IMPOSSIBLE! What phone costs that much to fix?!”
“This is a globally limited–edition custom model. The internal chip and encryption technology are worth far more than any standard flagship device. Current market valuation is one hundred million dollars. And even if you HAD the money, you
couldn’t buy one.”
Moore shot her a cold glance and pulled a folder from his briefcase.
“Ms. Winters, I have the authentication report and purchase contract right here. Would you
le to read them aloud?”
I waved him off.
“That won’t be necessary. I think everyone here heard you loud and clear.”
Everyone stayed quiet.
The CFO’s glasses had slid down to the tip of his nose. He forgot to push them back up.
The marketing director’s stared at the phone in shock
And Elaine? She completely collapsed into her chair, cold sweat pouring down her face.
Dominic finally snapped out of it.
“Serena… who the HELL are you?”
I didn’t answer him directly. Instead, I looked at Elaine.
“Elaine, I think it’s time we talked about compensation, don’t you?”
Elaine shot to her feet, practically screaming, “You’re ALL in on this together! You’re trying to SCAM me! There’s no way that phone is worth a hundred million dollars!”
Moore frowned and gave a subtle signal to his security team.

Chapter 5
Two of them immediately stepped forward and grabbed Elaine by both arms.
“Ms. Shaw, if you doubt us, you’re welcome to pursue legal action.”
Moore’s voice was ice–cold.
“Moore Global’s legal team of three thousand, eight hundred and sixty–five attorneys will be more than happy to see this through.”
Elaine’s face went white. Beads of sweat rolled down her forehead.
Everyone knew how ruthless Moore Global’s legal department was.
A small–time secretary like her? She wouldn’t stand a chance. Hell, even if she brought the entire Kane Enterprises legal team, they’d get steamrolled.
Her voice shook. “Mr. Kane… Mr. Kane, HELP ME!”
Dominic took a deep breath, stepped forward, and positioned himself in front of Elaine. His tone returned to its usual calm. “Mr. Moore, I think there may be some misunderstanding here. I’ll personally cover Ms. Shaw’s compensation.”
Moore didn’t respond right away. He looked at me instead.
I gave a slight nod, and only then did he put away the documents and address Dominic. “S give you three days to settle this.”
With that, he and his security team turned and left.
The conference room door closed softly–but it felt like a thunderclap.
Kane is stepping in, we will
I glanced between Dominic and Elaine, a slight smirk on my lips. “A hundred million dollar expense out of nowhere… don’t you need board approval for that, Mr. Kane?”
Before Dominic could respond, Elaine suddenly popped out from behind him, her fear replaced by twisted smugness.
“Serena Winters, did you forget something?”
“You’ve been FIRED! Company business is none of your damn concern anymore!”
Her words were like a match to gasoline, reigniting the tension in the room.
The other executives exchanged glances.
Someone muttered, “She’s right. Ms. Winters isn’t part of the company anymore.”
“What gives her the right to tell Mr. Kane what to do?”
“Exactly!”
