Chapter 6
Dominic’s frown deepened. He raised his hand to quiet everyone down, then looked at me.
“Serena, since you’re no longer an employee of Kane Enterprises, this matter ends here. The hundred million will be transferred to your account within three days.”
“Now, please leave.”
I didn’t move. My smirk only grew.
“Mr. Kane is so generous. A hundred million, just like that, for some secretary.”
“But forget the board for a second–are you sure your dad’s gonna be okay with this?”
“What about your grandfather?”
Elaine’s face shifted again. She tugged on Dominic’s sleeve, voice dropping to a whisper. “Mr. Kane, don’t listen to her bullshit.”
I smiled.
“I’m not bullshitting. Want me to call and ask them myself?”
Elaine panicked.
She snatched my phone out of my hand and stomped it into pieces.
Then had the nerve to say smugly that since they’d already agreed to pay, the phone was hers now–and whatever she did with it was none of my business.
Dominic’s expression turned ice–cold as he warned me, “Serena, I don’t care what your relationship is with Mr. Morgan or Mr. Moore. But this is Kane Enterprises. I’M in charge here.”
“Now get lost.”
I calmly sat back down in my chair, fingers lightly tapping the table, my gaze sweeping over Elaine’s face–twisted with rage.
“I can leave.” I spoke slowly. “But only if the old Mr. Kane comes and asks me himself.”
Elaine froze for a second, then burst into shrill, mocking laughter.
She pointed at me, laughing so hard she doubled over.
“HA! Who the hell do you think you are?! You think you’re important enough for the old Mr. Kane to come get you personally?!”
“Serena Winters, have you completely lost your mind?!“.
Dominic’s face went completely cold. He stepped forward, voice dripping with authority.

“Serena, I’m warning you one last time. This is Kane Enterprises. Not your personal playground.”
“Leave. NOW.”
The executives started piling on. Some were already picking up their phones to call security.
I still didn’t move. Just raised an eyebrow slightly, my gaze drifting past Dominic toward the floor–to–ceiling windows behind
him.
Outside, a black stretch limousine pulled up slowly in front of the building. The door opened, and an elderly man with white hair stepped out, leaning on a cane.
Beside him was a stern–looking middle–aged man helping him along.
I let out a soft laugh. “Looks like I won’t need to make that call after all.”
Dominic followed my gaze and turned around. His face went pale. “Dad? Grandpa?!”
Elaine’s laughter cut off instantly. Seeing the old Mr. Kane heading toward the conference room, her legs gave out–she nearly collapsed to the floor.
The conference room doors swung open. Dominic’s grandpa–Victor Kane, leaning heav almost frantically.
His eyes swept over the chaotic mess of the conference room before finally landing on me.
“Ms. Winters, I apologize. I came as soon as I could.”
That single phrase-“Ms. Winters“-plunged the entire room into stunned silence once again.
Dominic stared at me in disbelief.

Chapter 7
Elaine was so terrified by that rebuke that she collapsed onto the floor, lips trembling, unable to get a single word out.
Victor Kane took a deep breath and turned to Dominic, his eyes filled with disappointment. “Dominic, do you have any idea who she is?”
“I didn’t tell you the truth at first because I didn’t want to put pressure on you.”
“I planned to reveal everything after the engagement.”
“But you… God, what have you done…”
Dominic’s fingers trembled slightly. He opened his mouth but couldn’t make a sound.
I stood up, smoothed out my coffee–stained dress, and spoke calmly. “Mr. Kane, there’s no need to make this harder on him.”
“Since Kane Enterprises doesn’t want me here, I’ll leave.”
I turned and started walking toward the door.
“Wait!” Dominic’s father rushed forward, practically begging. “Serena, this is the Kane fammy’s fault. Please–give us a chance to make this right!”
I stopped and glanced back at Dominic.
His face was pale, his eyes filled with shock and confusion.
“A chance?” I let out a soft laugh. “Mr. Kane, do you really think Kane Enterprises is still in a position to ask ME for chances?”
The moment those words left my mouth, the projection screen suddenly lit up, displaying a breaking financial news alert:
[BREAKING: Kane Enterprises Stock PLUMMETS 30%-Market Value Evaporates by Nearly Ten Billion Dollars!]
The executives erupted into chaos. Some literally collapsed back into their chairs.
Dominic’s head snapped toward the screen, his face going even paler.
I calmly pulled out another phone and made a call. “You can stop now.”
One minute later, the stock price curve on screen suddenly stopped falling–then slowly began to climb back up.
The conference room went dead silent. Every single pair of eyes locked onto me.
Like they were staring at some kind of monster.
Dominic’s father took a deep breath, then suddenly spun around and slapped Elaine hard across the face.
