Yvonne’s face darkened at once.

She had worked her way up step by step. She hated chaos in a department more than anything, and she hated connected hires who came in swinging power even more. In her experience, one reckless relationship hire could wreck an entire team.

And as for Ethan, unfortunately, rumors had long been circulating in the company that he was involved with Aurora. This was because on one occasion, their ice-queen CEO, Aurora, actually went to eat in the staff cafeteria and made a point of sitting right next to him!

So she stood up immediately and strode out with Nathan and Caleb behind her.

As the three of them crossed the marketing floor, whispers spread in every direction.

“Manager Marsh looks furious.

“I told you that new deputy manager was asking for trouble.”

“He came in through connections and started acting like he owns the place.”

“Nathan has seniority. Caleb’s been here a while too. He can’t just fire people like that.”

“Let’s see how long that airs lasts under the real boss.”

Some people kept typing, but their ears were all turned in the same direction. Everyone was waiting to watch Ethan crash.

Back in the office, Ethan was seated before his computer, reviewing employee files one by one.

When the door was pushed open, he looked up calmly.

Yvonne walked in with a cold face. Nathan and Caleb followed close behind, both wearing the kind of expressions people wore when they thought they had found rescue.

“Deputy Manager Carter,” Yvonne said stiffly, “why did you dismiss a team leader and an employee from my department without proper cause?”

Ethan did not stand.

He simply met her gaze and said, “Because your team leader formed cliques, targeted an intern, and allowed workplace bullying to happen under his watch. Because your employee slapped that intern in public. Men like that stay, and this department rots.”

Yvonne’s brows drew together. “Do you have evidence for that?”

“Of course.” Ethan’s answer came without pause.

“We can pull the surveillance footage right now. The office cameras should have recorded everything clearly enough. Then we’ll see whether I’m lying or whether the two of them are.”

The moment he finished speaking, Ethan stared intently at Caleb and Nathan. Caleb’s face drained white.

But to his surprise, Nathan actually let out a scoff.

“Deputy Director, I fully support pulling the surveillance footage for a thorough investigation,” Nathan said, waving his hand dismissively. “After all, we were only doing our jobs. We haven’t done anything

wrong.”

“Haven’t done anything wrong?” Ethan’s eyes widened in fury. “Yesterday afternoon, you forced Travis to work overtime to finish a workload that was physically impossible for him to complete. And just now, your precious subordinate slapped him in front of everyone. You call that doing nothing wrong?!”
