Chapter 126 The Vice President
Mr. Nick shot to his feet in shock.
“Mr. Saunders? Weren’t you supposed to be back next week?”
Finished
Yonki had taken Silvia to school that morning, so he’d arrived at work a little later than usual.
As he passed the conference room, he heard a commotion inside. Then he heard someone mention his name.
That was reason enough to walk in.
“My business trip ended early, so I came back.” He smiled mildly. “Mr. Nick… from the sound of it, you weren’t hoping I’d return?”
Mr. Nick recovered quickly, plastering on a smile. “Of course not! There will always be a place for you at Venus.”
Wina’s face turned ghostly pale. She had never actually worked under Mr. Saunders. Now that he’d returned, there was no way he’d back her up.
She stopped pretending and looked desperately at Supervisor Zedd.
He lowered his head. This had gone beyond what he could handle. There would always be another pretty face. A position this good, however, only came once.
Mr. Nick draped an arm around Yonki’s shoulders and guided him farther into the room. Speaking so only the two of them could hear, he said quietly, “Mr. Saunders, Venus has a new president now. Let’s stop fighting each other.”
The meaning behind his words couldn’t have been clearer.
They should temporarily put aside their feud, join forces, get rid of the newly appointed President Zero, and settle their differences afterward.
Yonki said nothing. He had his own calculations.
He looked toward the new president.
The moment he saw Iris’s face, his expression froze.
“You? Weren’t you the young woman who saved Silvia a few days ago?”
Iris smiled. “We meet again sooner than expected, Mr. Saunders. Supervisor Zedd says Wina works for you. She plagiarized a colleague’s proposal, but he believes any decision should wait

until you returned.”

Yonki took the seat beside Iris, his smile warm and effortless. “She certainly doesn’t work for me. I don’t keep employees who plagiarize.”
“So,” Iris asked evenly, “what do you think should be done?”
Yonki glanced at Wina before looking toward Jess, who still had her head lowered.
“Handle it according to company policy. Anyone who steals another person’s work should be dismissed. Otherwise, everyone else in the company will lose faith.”
Supervisor Zedd finally gave up hope.
Mr. Nick’s expression wasn’t much better. He couldn’t figure out what Yonki was really thinking.
Iris nodded. “Notify Human Resources to process her final paycheck. And Jess will report to Supervisor Lilian starting today.”
“No problem.”
Just like that, the meeting to determine the proposal’s true author came to an end.
Wina slumped weakly in her chair while everyone else walked around her and left the conference room.
Supervisor Zedd waited until most people had gone before leaving himself.
As he passed, Wina grabbed his sleeve.
“Supervisor Zedd… what am I supposed to do?”
“You’re the idiot who got caught.” He yanked his arm free. “For old times’ sake, here’s one piece of advice. Keep your mouth shut.”
Then he walked away without another glance.
Jess stepped out of the conference room.
This time, no one dared gossip about her. She was about to become Lilian’s assistant.
For the first time in a long while, she felt relieved.
It was deeply satisfying.
She had barely taken a few steps toward her desk when Bella called out.

“Jess. President Zero would like to see you.”

Nervously, Jess followed Bella to the president’s office.
After showing her inside, Bella left to take care of other work.
Only Iris and Jess remained.
“Have a seat.”
A cup of water sat waiting across the desk.
“Thank
you for proving today that Wina was the one who plagiarized.”
Iris looked at her. “So… you won your gamble. How does it feel?”

Jess froze with the paper cup halfway to her lips. She slowly looked up and met Iris’s clear, penetrating gaze.
After a moment, she laughed helplessly.
“You really are incredible, President Zero.”
She had deliberately placed the proposal inside that stack of files. She had intentionally printed the title in bold.
