Fake Daughter is The Real Legend

Chapter 135 Second–in–command

Iris came to an abrupt stop, then immediately backed out into the hallway.

Several men in black suits were standing inside her hotel room.

They didn’t look like they were there to ambush her.

If anything, they looked like they were being punished.

There was a reason for that. Their boss had given strict orders: no one was allowed to sit on Miss Noir’s bed–or even in her chairs.

These men were used to doing whatever they pleased throughout Lystra. When had they ever been forced to stand stiffly at attention like this?

One of them stepped forward respectfully.

“Miss Noir, please don’t be alarmed. We’re not here to cause any trouble.”

“Our boss asked us to invite you for a conversation.”

Iris didn’t budge. Instead, she arched an eyebrow.

“You broke into my room and call that an invitation?”

The men exchanged silent glances.

In truth, they’d only gone inside because loitering in the hallway would have attracted unwanted attention.

“…Our apologies.”

Their attitude couldn’t have been more different from the men who had tried to kill her earlier.

Those men had wanted her dead.

These men, on the other hand, were surprisingly polite.

“Wait outside,” Iris said.

“I’m going to change first.”

After jumping from a moving limousine and rolling through dirt and weeds, both she and Stella were covered in dust. Stella didn’t seem to mind, but Iris certainly did.

“And if you’re worried about attracting attention in the hallway,” she added, “rent another room.”

After they left, Iris took a fresh set of clothes from her suitcase.

“Can you shower on your own? I’ve asked my assistant to buy you some clean clothes.”

“Thank you, Miss Noir.” Stella looked at her with heartfelt gratitude.

If Iris hadn’t been willing to help…

She might already have been killed by Jack.

Or sold off to some underground club.

“If you really want to thank me… come back to Capital City and work for me.”

Stella really was an excellent bartender.

After changing clothes, Iris opened the door.

One of the men escorted her to a newly rented room.

Finished

Five men were waiting inside. One of them was clearly the leader; he was the only one seated.

As soon as Iris entered, someone brought over another chair for her.

She sat down calmly.

“I don’t believe there’s anything for us to negotiate. I’m just a tourist passing through Lystra. I have no influence here, and I don’t intend to build any.”

The man smiled.

“Unfortunately, after offending them, leaving Lystra safely won’t be that simple.”

He leaned back in his chair.

“The people you crossed are the Whitmore family, one of Lystra’s three major underworld organizations. Even the hotel you’re staying in has Whitmore family members watching it. Without someone backing you, you’ll never make it out of Lystra alive.”

He wasn’t exaggerating.

Only an organization with influence equal to the Whitmore family’s could guarantee that Iris and Stella left the city safely.

Even after hearing that, Iris remained perfectly composed.

“You want the files Stella has.”

The man gave a slight shake of his head. “The decrypted files.”

“Fine.”

According to Stella, the Whitmore family wanted to eliminate everyone connected to those files. If that was true, then the only force capable of protecting them was the organization now sitting across from her.

Bella delivered the fresh clothes to Stella.

She still had absolutely no idea what had happened that morning.

She had simply followed President Zero’s instructions like a machine.

After being given the rest of the day off, she happily went sightseeing.

Meanwhile, inside Iris’s hotel room, Stella borrowed Iris’s computer to decrypt them.

“Wow…” Her eyes widened. “Miss Noir, this computer is incredible. Why doesn’t it have a brand logo?”

“A friend gave it to me.”

Stella understood enough about computers to recognize what she was looking at.

After using it for only a short while, she reached one conclusion. This wasn’t a machine designed for ordinary users. It was built for hackers…

Or highly specialized technical professionals.

After a while, she looked up. “Are you heading back to Ruins Bar afterward?”

One of the men standing nearby immediately stiffened.

“How did you know we came from there?”

Earlier that day, Iris had seen the bodyguards outside the upstairs private room.

Though they’d all worn sunglasses…

One of them had a distinctive scar across his hand.

It was the same man standing beside her now.

“When you head back,” Iris said calmly, “give me a ride. I have something to take care of at the bar.”

Stella immediately raised her hand obediently.

“I want to go back too. I need to pack my things.”

The two women returned to Ruins Bar with the men, bringing the decrypted files with them.

The owner visibly relaxed the moment he saw Stella was unharmed.

He’d known her for years. More than anything, he wanted the poor girl to finally have a chance at a better life.

“So you’re the one who saved Stella?” he said with a grin, turning to Iris. “What kind of information are you looking for? I’ll give you a ten–percent discount.”

Iris sent him Chairman Carter’s photo and personal information.

“The sooner, the better.”

“No problem. Give me two weeks at most. I’ll find what you’re looking for.”

After packing her belongings, Stella turned to the owner.

“Boss… I’m leaving with Miss Noir. I’m going to work for her.”

The owner laughed.

“So there are still genuinely good people in places like this,‘ she thought.

A faint smile touched her lips. ‘That’s… nice.”

Unlike the Whitmore family, who dominated Lystra as the city’s local power brokers, Alliance Secure Mission was headquartered in Capital City. Lystra was merely one of its branch operations.
