Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend

Chapter 139 The Bet

“She noticed?”

To make sure she won, Natasha had prepared for every possibility. Even if Iris really knew how to shoot, her performance would still suffer if she used a tampered bow.

The person who had altered it was a veteran bow technician Natasha knew well. Unless someone was exceptionally skilled at archery, there was no way they would spot the problem.

“Not going to switch?” Seeing her hesitate, Iris asked again.

“Or do you already know there’s something wrong with this bow?”

Natasha stiffened, refusing to admit it. “How could there be anything wrong with it?”

If she admitted it today, everyone in Nevaris’s social circle would know by tomorrow. She’d never be able to show her face again.

“I just don’t think this bow suits me very well. Since we’re switching to moving targets, we should use better equipment.”

After racking her brain, Natasha finally came up with what sounded like a respectable excuse.

“Sure.”

Iris didn’t press the issue any further and agreed that they should both change to a new set of bows.

This time, the replacement equipment was perfectly fine. Natasha didn’t dare have anyone tamper with it again.

She steadied herself.

She’d only resorted to that because she’d been too afraid of losing.

Once they competed fairly, she wasn’t necessarily any worse than Iris.

The targets were switched to moving ones, and the shooting distance was increased by another ten meters, making the challenge significantly harder.

This time, both women drew their bows simultaneously.

After what had happened in the previous round, no one dared underestimate Iris anymore. The crowd fell completely silent, holding their breath as they watched.

The scorekeeper ran over to Natasha’s target.

“Two bull’s–eyes! One in the nine ring!”

Natasha lowered her bow in a daze, her vision swimming. She swayed, barely managing to stay on her feet.

Iris’s accusation earlier had completely rattled her. During the match, she’d kept stealing glances toward Iris instead of focusing on her own shots.

Nervously, she watched the employee standing in front of Iris’s target, silently praying.

“Three bull’s–eyes!”

“Ahhh!”

Before anyone else had even recovered from the shock, Bella let out a triumphant scream at the betting table. She grabbed Stella’s wheelchair and shook it so hard she nearly sent Stella rolling away by accident.

Just as expected of President Zero!

Laughing, she swept all the money on the betting table over to her side.

“Oh my, what a jackpot! President Zero really is incredible!”

Mimicking the sarcastic tone everyone else had used earlier, Bella returned every bit of their mockery right back at them.

Upstairs, Olivia’s family was equally stunned.

“When did that brat learn archery? Why didn’t I know about it?”

Watching the confident, commanding figure on the range, Samuel fell into deep thought.

Both he and Vanessa Sutton were usually too busy with work to pay much attention to Iris’s personal life. Most of the time, they simply left her in Vivian’s care.

Later, after discovering she wasn’t biologically related to the Sutton family, Vanessa had even suggested sending her overseas and letting her fend for herself.

Perhaps…

He had never truly known this daughter.

“Didn’t my sister date a lot before? Maybe one of those rich older men taught her.”

Seeing the look on Samuel’s face, Olivia’s heart skipped a beat. Afraid he might start paying attention to Iris again, she quickly tried to tarnish Iris’s image.

“That’s possible. She never acted like family when she lived with us, but once she got out into the world, she sure got along well with older men.”

Vanessa looked at Iris on the range, her eyes filled with undisguised disgust.

Samuel had no interest in listening to family gossip. His only concern was the Sutton family’s business.

“Enough. We have a meeting with Mr. Quinn tomorrow. We’d better spend our time polishing the proposal.”

Having lost so badly in front of everyone, Natasha couldn’t even lift her head. She slunk back to her seat and sat beside Luke.

After watching Iris shoot, Luke found her even more captivating than before.
