Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 144

Finished

She’d been so busy with the company lately that she hadn’t had a chance to visit Evelyn Young.

“I’m going back too.”

The Noir and Young families had always been close. Now that Evelyn Young was critically ill, the Noir family would certainly pay their respects.

Ares Barclay frowned slightly.

“Why is it so noisy over there? It’s already late. Haven’t you gone back to the hotel yet?”

Iris switched to a video call. “No. I’m on a cruise.”

Seeing the lively scene behind her, Ares looked mildly surprised.

“A cruise? Since when do you go to places like that? You’ve always hated crowded, noisy environments.”

Cruise ships, especially at night, were far more crowded than anywhere on land.

Looking down at her now–empty plate, Iris answered honestly,

“The buffet here is really good.”

“Miss, look at my son! I even brought pictures. He’s very handsome!”

One of the older ladies still hadn’t given up. She leaned over again, slid a photo across the table, and whispered to Iris,

“It doesn’t hurt to get to know more people. If things ever don’t work out with your fiancé, you’ll have someone even better to choose from, right?”

Ares had exceptionally sharp hearing. He caught every single word.

I’ve only been gone a few days, and someone’s already trying to steal my fiancée?‘

“Iris,” he said, “let me have a word with that lady.”

“Oh, sure.” Iris turned the phone toward the auntie.

“Oh my goodness!”

Chapter 144 Cunning Iris

The woman had been arranging photos of her son on the table when the phone screen suddenly appeared in front of her, revealing a dangerously smiling young man.

She nearly jumped out of her seat.

Iris switched the call to speaker.

“Ma’am, you don’t need to worry about my fiancée.”

Ares lazily drew out the last few words as he glanced at the photograph in the woman’s hand.

“Besides…”

The woman looked at the refined, aristocratic–looking man on the screen.

Then she looked back at the picture of her own son.

Without another word, she quietly tucked the photo away and left.

Compared to this young man… her son’s competitiveness wasn’t just low. It was in the negatives.

Still…

He really was a perfect match for that young lady. How does someone even raise a son that handsome?

Seeing him continue staring at her, Iris asked, “Is there something on my face?”

“Nothing. I was just thinking my fiancée is a little too popular.”

“No matter where you go, people are trying to steal you away. It makes me feel a little insecure.”

“You’re pretty impressive yourself.” Iris smiled faintly. “Your face is apparently a very effective weapon. You scared off every auntie trying to set me up.”

“Fortunately,” Ares replied with a smile, “I reserved our engagement ahead of time.”

Bella had already booked their flights.

Once they disembarked, they’d head straight to the airport.

Since there was still some time before then, Iris chatted with Ares.

“There isn’t an engagement anymore.” She reminded him, “I already signed the cancellation agreement.”

Ares’s smile faded. “It doesn’t count. We never gave the cancellation papers to either family. So

the engagement was never officially called off.”

Fortunately, he’d reacted quickly back then.

Bella popped a chicken meatball into Iris’s mouth.

It was surprisingly delicious.

“Still…” Ares thought for a moment. “You reminded me of something. You signed the cancellation agreement, and I kept telling you I didn’t like arranged marriages or the person I was engaged to.”

“I didn’t handle that very well.”

Across the screen, Iris didn’t seem particularly bothered by it.

Truthfully…

She still felt a little dazed about the engagement herself.

She simply enjoyed being with Ares.

That was why she’d never brought up ending it again.

“So…” Ares looked at her seriously. “I’ve decided I’m going to court you properly. I don’t want you staying with me because of an arranged marriage or because our parents expect it.”

Bella, listening from the side, was genuinely touched. How many lifetimes of good karma did Ms. Iris accumulate to end up with such a perfect fiancé?

A second later, she corrected herself.

No.

How many lifetimes of good karma did this man accumulate to be lucky enough to marry Ms. Iris?

Once the cruise docked, Tasha, the local guide, and Olivia all left for the police station with the security guards.

Iris and Bella returned to the hotel, packed their luggage, picked up Stella, and headed straight for the airport.

Capital City.

The influential members of the city’s major families had all returned.

Richard Noir had been worried Iris might feel uncomfortable after just returning to the family. He’d even asked whether she wanted to come, afraid she’d be frightened by seeing a dying elderly woman.
