Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 156

Chapter 156 Dilemma

Meanwhile, Julie leaned closer to the phone, barely able to contain herself.

“Master Ashcroft! Do you remember me? I’m Julie Young.”

The old man adjusted his glasses and leaned toward the camera.

“Hmm…”

“You seem familiar. But I’m afraid I can’t quite place you.”

Too many aspiring craftsmen had sought him out over the years.

At his age, names and faces didn’t come as easily as they once had.

“I… I came to ask if you’d take me as your apprentice a few years ago.”

Julie’s shoulders slumped.

Master Ashcroft smiled apologetically. “I’m sorry, my dear. I stopped taking apprentices years ago.”

Before Julie could respond, Iris spoke. “Could you make one exception?”

Julie quickly shook her head. Master Ashcroft had never changed his mind for anyone. She didn’t want Iris offending someone she respected so deeply.

“Of course. If you’re asking, Iris, then I’d be happy to.”

Silence.

Complete silence.

Even the people who had backed away moments earlier instinctively crowded around again.

“But…” One of them blurted out, “I thought you said you weren’t taking apprentices anymore.”

Master Ashcroft chuckled.

“I don’t.” His eyes crinkled as he smiled at Iris. “But Iris isn’t just anyone. If she’s willing to vouch for someone, that’s good enough for me.”

He looked back at the screen.

“The young lady is Julie, right?”

Iris nodded. “That’s right.”

“Then bring her to see me this weekend. I’d like to meet anyone Iris thinks so highly of.”

The room erupted into stunned whispers.

Julie could barely process what she’d just heard.

The last time she’d visited Master Ashcroft… he hadn’t been anything like this.

After a long silence, she finally found her voice.

“What…” She looked at Iris. “…what exactly is your relationship with Master Ashcroft?”

On the screen, the old man raised an eyebrow.

“You don’t know?”

Julie blinked in confusion, clearly not understanding what Master Ashcroft meant.

Master Ashcroft was just about to explain when he met Iris’s cool, warning gaze. He immediately straightened up.

“…I’ll tell you when you get here!” He laughed awkwardly. “Anyway, Iris and I are very close!”

That only made everyone behind Iris even more curious.

“What kind of relationship do they have?”

“Don’t stop halfway through!”

“Now I’m dying to know!”

Someone even whispered that maybe Iris was actually Master Ashcroft’s granddaughter.

“That’s enough for today.”

Without the slightest hesitation, Iris ended the video call.

She turned to look at the crowd.

The people who had been mocking her only moments ago suddenly felt awkward.

Remembering everything they’d confidently declared earlier, none of them had the nerve to ask any more questions.

One by one, they retreated to their own tables, silently reassessing their bargaining chips.

The problem was…

No matter how they looked at it, nothing they could offer came close to what Iris had just put on the table.

How could they compete with someone who could casually video–call the country’s most respected master blacksmith?

They couldn’t.

They’d all heard the rumors that Venus’s new president was exceptionally capable.

None of them had believed them.

Now…

They’d just been proven spectacularly wrong.

“Well, then.” Iris rose to her feet. “I’ve already taken care of the bill.”

She turned to Julie with a polite smile.

“Ms. Young, feel free to continue meeting with the other companies if you’d like.”

She had barely taken a step when Julie reached out and caught her by the arm.

“Wait.” Julie shook her head. “I don’t think there’s any reason to hear anyone else out. I’ve seen enough.”

“I’d like to work with Venus.”

Before Iris could say another word. Julie picked up the contract from the table and signed it without a moment’s hesitation.

The representatives from the other companies lowered their heads in resignation.

They all knew the deal was lost.

“This weekend,” Julie said with a smile, “I’ll see you at Master Ashcroft’s.”

Iris nodded. “I’ll be there.”

Julie picked up her handbag and walked out beside her.

After studying Iris for a few moments, she smiled. “I think I like you.”
