Chapter 16 Romantic Rival
Chapter 16 Romantic Rival
Downstairs, Chloe checked the clock for the tenth time.
“Mom. She forced concern into her voice. “We’re running out of time.”
She sighed.
“Maybe Iris should just change into another dress.”
The moment she finished speaking-
Click.
The sewing room door opened.
Iris walked out.
The entire living room fell silent.
Eleanor’s eyes widened.
“Oh my God.”
She immediately stood.
“Iris…”
Her voice was filled with disbelief.
“Did you really make this?”
The original gown had been completely transformed.
The shorter front hem showcased long, elegant legs while the flowing back train cascaded behind her like a mermaid’s tail.
The layered ruffles created movement with every step.
The silhouette looked lighter.
More graceful.
More alive.
The original designer gown had been beautiful.
This version was breathtaking.
Somehow, it suited Iris perfectly.

Chapter 16 Romantic Rival
Cool
Elegant
Unforgettable.
And she hadn’t even finished her hair and makeup yet.
With her dark hair spilling over her shoulders and her porcelain skin glowing under the light, she already looked like a mermaid princess from a fantasy novel.
Even Richard was stunned.
For several seconds, he forgot to speak.
Then something occurred to him.
The design.
The silhouette.
The artistic details.
It reminded him of someone.
A legendary designer who had disappeared from the fashion world three years ago.
The resemblance was uncanny.
His eyes brightened.
Iris. He suddenly became excited. After graduation, would you consider interning at our design company?
Eleanor immediately shoved him aside.
“Will you stop thinking about business for five minutes?”
She took Iris by the shoulders.
“Hair and makeup. Now. We’re already late!”
Richard slapped his forehead.
“Right. He laughed awkwardly. “Go. Hurry.”
Meanwhile, Chloe stood frozen.
Her nails dug into her palms.
Compared to Iris s stunning mermaid-inspired gown, her pink dress suddenly looked ordinary.

Chapter 16 Romantic Rival
Forget standing out tonight
Standing next to Iris would guarantee she got overshadowed.
Why?
Why did the beautiful dress have to belong to Iris?
Why wasn’t it hers?
Fortunately for everyone, Iris was naturally beautiful.
Hair and makeup took less than thirty minutes.
Soon afterward, the Noir family headed to Henry Caldwell’s gala.
The guests were still arriving when they entered.
Henry himself hadn’t appeared yet.
Richard and Eleanor wanted Iris to meet some of the younger socialites in the Capital.
So they asked Chloe to introduce her around.
Chloe obediently agreed.
At least on the surface.
She led Iris toward a group of wealthy young women.
The entire conversation revolved around luxury brands, designer collections, and elite social gossip.
When someone asked who Iris was, Chloe merely smiled and replied:
“A relative who recently moved here.”
Nothing more.
The message was clear.
1
She wasn’t one of them.

The other girls immediately understood Chloe’s attitude.
No one attempted to include Iris.
No one spoke to her.
No one even acknowledged her existence.

Chapter 16 Romantic Rival
Iris couldn’t have cared less.
The moment she realized what was happening, she simply turned around and walked away
She preferred peace and quiet anyway
Grabbing a glass of sweet wine from a passing server, she found a secluded corner and settled comfortably into a chair.
The location was cleverly chosen.
Most guests wouldn’t even notice she was there.
Most.
Not all.
“I knew I’d find you hiding here.”
Xavier appeared out of nowhere and raised his glass toward hers.
Clink.
Their glasses touched.
Years of friendship made finding Iris surprisingly easy.
At that exact moment, Ares Barclay arrived.
Emma was with him.
The little girl’s eyes immediately locked onto Iris.
Then she noticed Xavier sitting beside her.
Her eyes widened.
She pointed dramatically.
“Uncle Ares!”
Ares followed her finger.
Across the room, Xavier leaned close to Iris as they spoke quietly.
Again.
It was always Xavier Hayes.
That guy seemed to appear everywhere around her.

Chapter 16 Romantic Rival
Emma gasped “That’s your love rival!”
Ards looked down at her. Then squeezed her hand a little too hard.
“Ouch!” Emma yanked her hand back.
Rubbing her fingers, she grumbled under her breath.
“Jealous much?” She shook her head dramatically. “Men are so weird.”
Ares pretended not to hear. He crouched down and flicked her forehead.
“Your head isn’t very big.”
Emma covered the offended forehead.
“But somehow it’s always full of nonsense.”
She pouted. “Fine.”
