Chapter 161 Impressive

Inside the courtyard, William had just returned to his room and was about to lie back down when the alarm sent him flying out of bed.
Are these people ever going to give up? They actually found the hidden side entrance… and now they’re trying random fingerprints?‘
Furious, he grabbed a broom and stormed outside.
Julie jumped in fright. “Iris! Do you even know how to open that thing?”
Iris studied the scanner for a moment before gently patting Ares’s arm, signaling him to let go.
Then she raised her index finger.
“Sorry, I remembered wrong. I usually register my thumbprint. I forgot that Mr. Ashcroft had me use my index finger here.”
Julie hurriedly tried to stop her. “Are you sure this time? Some security doors are electrified if you keep entering the wrong fingerprint!”
But Iris moved too quickly. She had already pressed her finger onto the scanner.
Beep.
The alarm stopped instantly.
Inside, William charged toward the side entrance, an angry retort already on the tip of his
tongue.
Then he froze.
The door… was open.
The expensive smart security system his master had spent a fortune installing…
had actually unlocked.
Still clutching the broom, William stood rooted to the
spot.
Looking at Iris outside the gate, all the anger in his chest vanished without a trace, leaving him feeling strangely choked.
After a long silence, he licked his dry lips and finally managed to speak.

“H–How did you open it?” He stared at her in disbelief. “You… you really know my teacher?”
Without saying a word, Iris placed her index finger on the scanner once more.
Beep.
The indicator light flashed green.
That was all the answer he needed.
With that, William had nothing left to say.
He ushered all four of them inside, seated them in the front hall, and poured each of them a cup of tea.
“I’ll trust you for now. Just wait here and don’t wander around until my teacher gets back.”
He was about to leave and get back to his chores, but his curiosity got the better of him.
After a moment of internal debate, he decided to sit beside Iris and get some answers.
Before he could even pull out the chair, however, a shadow fell over him.
Ares Barclay stood behind him, teacup in hand. “Excuse me.”
William blinked.
“Weren’t you sitting over there?”
The boy looked up and immediately sensed the dangerous aura surrounding the man.
Without another word, he wisely retreated a few steps and sat where Ares had been instead.
‘Seriously? It’s just a chair…‘
Even from across the room, though, his curiosity was impossible to suppress.
“So… how do you know my teacher?”
“The fingerprint registration means you two must be really close. Besides me, I’ve never seen my teacher register anyone else’s fingerprints.”
Before Iris could answer, the front gate creaked open.
Mr. Ashcroft was back!
Forgetting all about his questions, William hurried outside to greet him.

Meanwhile, Julie looked around the antique–style hall with sparkling eyes. She loved the traditional décor, especially the calming fragrance of the candle burning on the table.

“Master!” William called excitedly. “A strange group came by! They got in through the side entrance using a fingerprint! I couldn’t stop them.”
Recently, Edmund Ashcroft had developed a hobby of foraging for wild vegetables in the mountains. He returned carrying a basket overflowing with freshly picked greens.
Hearing William’s report, he froze.
“They got in through the side entrance… with a fingerprint? What kind of people?”
“Three women and one man. The girl who used the fingerprint didn’t smile much, but she had this… elegant presence…”
William was still trying to describe her when he suddenly realized his master had already sprinted off.
“Master! Where are you going?”
For someone his age, Edmund Ashcroft was surprisingly quick.
William couldn’t even catch up.

“I was half asleep yesterday! How was I supposed to remember?”

“This Miss Noir… she’s far more impressive than I’d imagined.‘
