Love Donghiar to The Realtegend
Chapter 162 Follow The Heart
:
The word felt strangely awkward coming from her mouth.
Edmund frowned. “Why do you sound so stiff introducing your fiancé? You sound like a robot reading from a script.”
He looked Ares up and down before nodding with satisfaction.
“You’ve got good taste, Iris. He’s a handsome young man, and he’s built well.”
“If you’d like to learn ironwork too, I’d be happy to teach you.”
After all, the craft required considerable physical strength.
That was one of the reasons Edmund had originally been reluctant to take female apprentices.
Until Iris completely shattered that prejudice.
Ares smiled politely. “I’d be honored to learn from you when I have the chance.”
As he spoke, he naturally slipped an arm around Iris’s shoulders and inclined his head respectfully.
“Oh, right.” Edmund suddenly remembered something. “You drove here, didn’t you? Could you help me pick something up from the village?”
Ares stood. “I’ll go with her.”
Before he could take another step, Iris gently pressed him back into his chair.
“You stay here. I’ll go.”
She looked toward Edmund, who immediately caught on.
“Right, right! Let Iris go. She knows the area well. She’ll be back before long.”
Ares gently took hold of the hand she’d used to push him back. “You really don’t need me to come?”
She nodded. “No.”
Edmund grinned. “Stay here, young man. I’ll tell you all about what Iris was like when she was little.”
Seeing how firm she was, Ares finally gave in without another objection.

Just as Iris was about to leave, Emily suddenly stood up.
“Miss Noir, May I come with you?”
Iris turned back, a flicker of surprise crossing her face. “Of course.”
Emily quickly caught up with her.
There were things she’d wanted to say to Iris in private. She hadn’t expected Ares to come along on this trip. This might be her only opportunity.
Soon, only Ares and Edmund Ashcroft remained in the front hall.
Ares still wore a pleasant smile. But without Iris beside him, the warmth in it had noticeably faded.
“Mr. Ashcroft,” he said evenly, “is there something unusual about that village?”
Edmund Ashcroft’s expression grew slightly unnatural, though he tried to play dumb.
“What are you talking about, young man? Why would there be any danger?”
Yet under the younger man’s steady gaze, he had the uncomfortable feeling that every secret had already been seen through.
After a brief standoff, Edmund finally sighed in defeat.
“It’s not dangerous,” he admitted. “It would just… be troublesome if
Ares raised an eyebrow. “Because I’m a man?”
“Well…”
you went.”
Edmund looked at him in surprise. He hadn’t expected Ares to identify the problem so quickly.
After a moment, he nodded.
“The village we passed earlier is called Willow Village.”
“For reasons tied to something that happened years ago, the villagers have an intense dislike for men from outside the village.”
So that was why Edmund and William lived so far away from everyone else.
Meanwhile, in the car, Emily finally had the chance she’d been waiting for–a moment alone
with Iris.

She fastened her seat belt and was just about to speak.
“Hang on.”
Before she could react, Iris stepped on the accelerator.
The car shot forward like an arrow.
Emily’s heart nearly jumped into her throat. Every time she opened her mouth to speak, the rushing wind poured in through the open window. She struggled just to roll it shut.
At the speed Iris was driving, she wasn’t even sure whether she should start the conversation. If Iris got distracted for even a second, they might end up in a ditch.
“You wanted to say something to me, didn’t you?” Without taking her eyes off the road, Iris spoke first.
Emily clutched her chest. “C–Could you slow down a little first…?”
The speed gradually dropped to something she could barely tolerate.
“I can tell that Mr. Barclay really likes you, Miss Noir.”
Iris simply pressed her lips together and kept her attention on the road.
“Then let me ask you something.” Emily finally worked up the courage. “Do you like him?”
Iris suddenly found herself genuinely curious. How did other people see her relationship with Ares?
“What do you think?”
Emily fell silent for a long moment.
“Miss Noir… I think people should follow their hearts.”
“You and Mr. Barclay ended up together almost by accident. If you meet someone you truly love in the future… what then? Would you divorce him?”
She could tell Ares cared deeply about Iris. There was no way she dared say anything like this to him. But Iris always seemed calm and emotionally reserved. Perhaps she was the one she could persuade.
The car suddenly jolted over a bump.
Emily instinctively gripped her seatbelt, nervously watching Iris’s expression.

Emily thought she’d finally gotten through to her. She was just about to continue when Iris calmly added. “Are those words really meant for me… or for yourself?”

Emily immediately thought, ‘Wouldn’t we just get in the way?”
‘She knows how to make chestnut cakes?‘
