William was determined to challenge her, so he went all out. Tilting his head, he put on the cutest expression he could manage.
Iris didn’t react in the slightest. She’d seen someone far cuter–Emma Barclay. A twelve- or thirteen–year–old boy pretending to be adorable wasn’t enough to move her.
Mistaking her indifference for a lack of confidence, William assumed her skills had declined and that she didn’t dare compete with him. When one tactic failed, he immediately tried another. Carrying a plate of chestnut cakes, he sidled over to Mr. Ashcroft.
“Master, aren’t you starting your livestreams soon? You’ll need someone to demonstrate flawless technique on camera, right?”
Mr. Ashcroft thought about it and realized it was true. The cultural bureau had asked him to host regular livestreams to promote the craft of ironwork. The problem was that only a handful of viewers ever tuned in, and because he wasn’t familiar with streaming rules, his broadcasts were often shut down for accidental violations.
“Then let’s do it today. Stop pestering your senior sister–we still have to get ready for the stream.”
“How about letting Senior Sister appear on camera too?”
Mr. Ashcroft laughed helplessly. “You wish! I’ve never publicly revealed your senior sister’s identity, and you’re already in such a hurry? Let’s get the stream started first. We’ll be lucky if we can get twenty viewers today.”
The reason he was so eager to go live now was because Iris and the others were here. If anything went wrong, the younger generation could help him.
Julie raised her hand. “Um… if you don’t mind, you can use my account.”
William blinked. “You have an account?”
She opened her social media profile. Mr. Ashcroft and William leaned over curiously, and after one glance, both were stunned.
“You’re practically a celebrity!”
Mr. Ashcroft turned toward Iris. “Iris, how many followers do you have now?”
“I don’t have an account.”
The last time she’d livestreamed with Mason Reed, she’d borrowed someone else’s account.

Running a social media account was too much trouble, and having too many followers only made it easier for people to uncover personal information.
“Then let’s use Julie’s.”
Seeing the follower count, Mr. Ashcroft couldn’t help growing nervous.
Several million followers…
If something went wrong…
Sensing his anxiety, Iris reassured him.
“We’ll all be right beside you. Nothing will happen during the livestream.”
Her words worked like a calming pill. Mr. Ashcroft visibly relaxed and briefly explained the stream’s format and content to everyone.
It was nothing complicated–just demonstrating the process of creating a piece of traditional ironwork on camera.
The problem was that the process was long and painstaking, making it difficult to hold viewers‘ attention. Most people would rather watch something entertaining.
After thinking for a moment, Iris took Julie’s phone and scrolled through several currently trending livestream formats before offering a few suggestions.
The biggest change was obvious.
They couldn’t completely ignore the audience.
That responsibility naturally fell to William and Julie.
Although Julie’s previous streams had always been backed by a professional production team handling lighting and filming, she wasn’t inexperienced herself.
She immediately recognized that every suggestion Iris made struck at the heart of the problem. They were exactly the kind of adjustments that could significantly improve viewer retention.
Someone this knowledgeable… actually didn’t even have a social media account?
Neither Iris nor Ares Barclay appeared on camera. They stayed behind the scenes, happily eating chestnut cakes. Ares had even brought a bag full of other snacks, every single one chosen according to Iris’s preferences.
Once Julie adjusted the camera angle, she started the livestream.

Her tens of millions of followers received instant notifications, and viewers flooded into the stream within seconds.
Mr. Ashcroft had never seen anything like it before.
His mouth hung open, but no words came out.
“Julie’s live!”
“That was so sudden!”
“Wifey Julie, I’m here!”
“What’s today’s theme?”
The moment the stream began, Julie slipped effortlessly into host mode.
“Today’s a special broadcast! We’ve invited Mr. Edmund Ashcroft, a master craftsman and recognized inheritor of a traditional decorative ironwork craft. Let’s have Mr. Ashcroft tell everyone about the history of this incredible art form.”
Seeing Iris give him an encouraging nod, Mr. Ashcroft finally snapped out of his daze and began introducing the craft, just as he always did during his previous streams.
Meanwhile, Iris opened the livestream on her own phone and quietly moderated the chat, removing disruptive comments before they could affect the atmosphere.
Lowering his gaze, Ares watched her.
Her eyes remained fixed on the screen, and her long, slender fingers flew across it as she typed with astonishing speed.
Sometimes, simply watching her work was a pleasure in itself.
The stream continued as planned.
Julie stayed beside Mr. Ashcroft as the host, William demonstrated the ironworking process, and because Mr. Ashcroft had injured his hand a few days earlier, he limited himself to explaining each step.
Mr. Ashcroft’s age gave him a certain steadiness.
William, however, was another story.
Ever since the stream began, his eyes had kept drifting toward the phone screen. He couldn’t resist reading the comments.

“Good thing my wife didn’t try it! A stab like that would definitely leave a scar!”
“Why are you all just standing there? Treat the wound already!”
Even as she moved, she remembered to tilt the phone downward. Everyone’s faces immediately disappeared from the livestream, leaving only their bodies visible from the neck down.
