Iris casually closed the door behind her, shutting out the noisy chatter from outside. The room fell silent in an instant.

Marcus had put a lot of thought into this place. The interior was well designed, and the soundproofing was excellent–good enough to keep Jett Xu from losing his mind.

“What exactly happened that day?”

Jett Xu poured her a glass of water before taking a seat across from her.

Jett Xu had been drugged himself back then. Half–conscious, the only thing he’d managed to hear was the family’s surname.

Iris’s expression sharpened.

“Yes. It was the Young family’s matriarch.”

“When are you going to see her? I’ll come with you.”

Iris’s medical skills were exceptional, but she wasn’t familiar with Steven’s methods of developing drugs.

After all, both of them had been trained by him personally.

Jett Xu nodded. After watching her for a moment, he suddenly changed the subject with a teasing grin. “So, where’s your boyfriend? Why didn’t he come with you?”

Iris looked at him speechlessly. “What? You miss him?”

Jett Xu glared at her. “What kind of question is that? I was just curious!”

Iris checked his pulse one last time. After confirming there was nothing seriously wrong, she chatted with him for a few more minutes before leaving.

The moment she stepped outside, she spotted a familiar car parked at the

entrance.

Ares Barclay lowered the driver’s–side window. The colorful neon lights from the bar reflected in his captivating eyes, scattering into a mesmerizing glow.

Walking over, Iris asked, “Did you come here for a drink?”

“Jett Xu asked me to.”

Smiling, he held up his phone and showed her a text message.

Unable to resist the temptation of good food, she opened the passenger door and got in.

“So, what are we having this time?”

Ares handed her a tablet. “Everything on there is worth trying.”

Iris browsed through the list before settling on a Thai restaurant.

A server led them to their seats. There were no private rooms in the restaurant, but the tables were spaced far apart, with elegant crystal bead curtains separating each dining area.

The food arrived quickly.

By now, Iris no longer stood on ceremony around Ares. She picked up her spoon and dug right in.

Watching her enjoy the meal so much, Ares decided to head to the front desk to find the owner he knew personally and order a couple of off–menu specialties.

“See? Chloe is so thoughtful. Your family really should learn from her…”
