The largest and most influential corporation in all of Capital City.

Its reputation was so overwhelming that they had overlooked the most obvious possibility. They had never even considered that “Barclay Group” could refer to that Barclay Group.

“Iris Noir… got involved with someone from the Barclay Group?”

And judging by everything that had happened, it wasn’t just anyone.

It was someone with real power. How was that even possible?

But things had already escalated beyond repair. There was no way Vanessa Sutton was going to apologize to Iris, and even if she did, Iris would most likely never forgive them.

“Honey, let’s take a chance on Stellar Venture. Isn’t their second anniversary gala coming up?”

Stellar Venture was a rising company in Capital City with very few business ties to the Barclay Group. They probably wouldn’t care about any of this.

Samuel Sutton rubbed his temples.

“I guess that’s our only option.”

If that didn’t work…

Then he’d have no choice but to beg Iris and ask her to speak to Mr. Barclay on their behalf.

At the Noir residence in Capital City, the family was discussing Venus over breakfast.

“Now that Nick has been arrested, what happens to all the business he was handling?”

Richard had entrusted most of the company’s authority to Nick and Yonki years

ago. Yonki had already lost the internal power struggle, while Nick had accumulated far too many responsibilities over the years. Handing everything over wouldn’t happen overnight.

“Don’t worry, Dad.” Vincent took a sip of coffee before frowning and adding another spoonful of sugar. “Iris had already stripped him of his real authority. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have acted so recklessly.”

Richard looked toward his daughter.

“Honestly, managing a small company like Venus is beneath your abilities. Why not come straight to the Noir Group?”

Iris had only taken over Venus to track down Chairman Carter, the company’s former chairman.

She wasn’t particularly interested in running businesses.

Eleanor shot her husband a glare.

“Why are you always trying to dump the Noir Group on Iris? Vincent’s doing just fine. Iris hasn’t even started college yet. Why should she be managing a corporation?”

Mentioning Vincent reminded Eleanor of something. She pulled out a thick stack of photographs.

“Now that you’re back home, take a look. See if any of these girls catch your eye. If you like someone, I’ll arrange for you to meet. You’re not getting any younger. It’s time you started thinking about settling down.”

Vincent smiled helplessly. “What’s the rush? We just found Iris. I’d rather spend more time looking after her. If I get a girlfriend now, I won’t be able to devote as much attention to her.”

Eleanor thought about it.

“That’s true.” She sighed. “Fine. I’ll let you off the hook this time.”

Even so, she refused to give up completely and quietly slipped the photos into Vincent’s briefcase.

As the family talked about company matters, Chloe couldn’t get a word in. She

Several times she wanted to steer the conversation somewhere else, but there was never an opportunity.

Watching Vincent and Iris grow closer and closer left an unpleasant feeling in her chest.

I have to do something. I can’t let their relationship keep improving.‘

After breakfast, Iris rode to work in Vincent’s car.

Curious, she pulled the stack of photographs from his briefcase.

Every woman in the pictures was beautiful, each with a completely different style. On the back of every photo was a short biography.

Seeing how seriously she was looking through them, Vincent asked with a smile,

“See anyone you like?”

“You’re the one looking for a wife, not me.”

Lately, Vincent had become increasingly skilled at using her as an excuse to dodge matchmaking.

“Then consider yourself the first round of screening. If someone catches your eye, I’ll think about getting to know her.”

Truthfully, he had never cared much about marriage.

Growing up, he’d never truly fallen for anyone. His entire focus had always been on studying and work.

“Oh, right, Brother.” Iris looked up from the photos. “Don’t take me to the office first. I’d like to stop by and see Nick.”

Vincent frowned immediately. “What’s there to see?”

“I don’t think he’s the mastermind. Whoever sabotaged the elevator had help. That’s not something he could’ve pulled off alone.”

Vincent was silent for a moment. “Then I’ll go with you.”

At the Capital Police Bureau, Nick was still being held in custody while awaiting trial.

The officers recognized the Noir siblings immediately and politely escorted them inside.

“I’ll wait out here,” Vincent said. “Just be careful. If anything happens, call for me.”

The officer led Iris into the detention area.

Between embezzling company funds and attempted murder, and with the Noir family making their position perfectly clear, Nick would not be shown any leniency.

He looked haggard.
