The partnership email and proposal Samuel had sent over had been filtered out by Zane Walker from the very beginning. Who knew when Danny had stumbled across them? He was probably thinking that since he was leaving the company anyway, he might as well make one last fortune before he quit.

“I know,” Zane interrupted. “We’re still pretending we don’t know you, right?”

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a little robot rolling into Iris’s room. The longer he looked at it, the more familiar it seemed.

“Why does this thing look so familiar? Boss, did you buy it?”

“Chloe did. Didn’t their company send you one before?”

“Oh, right!” Zane slapped his forehead. “I’ve had way too much going on lately. My memory’s gone downhill. Isn’t this the series you supervised during production? Wait… I remember these things have surveillance features. She didn’t buy it to spy on you, did she?”

“You guessed right. But I’ve already modified the software.”

After her modifications, it wasn’t just Chloe who could access the camera feed anymore. Iris could as well–and her permissions were higher than Chloe’s.

Chloe didn’t understand anything about programming and never noticed the change. She still thought Iris was the one being kept in the dark.

Shaking his head, Zane ended the video call.
