Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 184

Believing Ares would come for her first, Chloe had been waiting in the living room since early afternoon.

When he still hadn’t arrived after what felt like forever, she finally went outside to wait at the front gate instead.

She had spent a fortune on tonight’s gown.

There was no way Ares wouldn’t be dazzled by it.

By the time Ares’s car finally pulled up leisurely in front of the villa, Chloe was almost too tired to keep standing.

She quickly perked herself up, gathered her skirt, and walked toward the rear passenger door.

She pressed the handle several times.

It wouldn’t open.

Knocking lightly on the window, she called sweetly, “Ares, could you unlock the door?”

Chloe deliberately turned to show off what she believed was her best profile. After days of intensive practice managing her expressions, she flashed what she thought was a perfectly seductive wink into the car.

The window slowly rolled down.

Her flirtatious wink landed squarely on Iris.

Iris looked back at her expressionlessly.

“I… Iris? Why are you in the car too?”

Chloe tried to compose herself, but her panic only made her expression even more awkward.

‘Shouldn’t they have picked me up first before going to get Iris?‘

Iris pointed toward the front passenger seat. Before Chloe could say another word, she rolled the window back up.

Julian opened the front passenger door. “Miss Chloe, please take the front seat. If you don’t get in now, we’re going to be late.”

Chloe knew there was no chance of getting close to Ares Barclay during this ride. Swallowing her frustration, she climbed into the front seat, making no effort to hide her displeasure from Julian.

The entire drive was torture.

Every sweet interaction she’d imagined having with Ares ended up happening between him and Iris instead.

Whenever the car hit a bump, Iris would naturally lean toward Ares. He would gently brush her back into place, carefully freeing strands of hair that had caught on her jeweled hair clip.

Meanwhile, Chloe had spent a fortune on her gown and makeup, only to sit in the front passenger seat like an afterthought.

“Iris,” she finally said after taking several deep breaths to calm herself, “I heard there’s going to be dancing at the banquet. I don’t have a partner. Could I borrow Mr. Barclay for one dance?”

Ares was just about to refuse when Iris spoke first.

“If you want to dance, Stellar Venture has hired several professional dance partners. They’re there specifically for guests who don’t have a partner but still want to dance.”

Ares looked at the woman beside him in surprise.

‘Is she… jealous?‘

‘She finally got jealous for once.‘

…That actually feels pretty nice.‘

Chloe’s face turned green with anger.

By the end of the drive, she’d been force–fed so much public affection that she felt like she’d drowned in it.

When they arrived at the banquet hall, Ares stepped out first and helped Iris out of the car.

After Julian opened the front passenger door for Chloe, he drove off to park the

car.

The three of them presented their invitations at the entrance before an attendant escorted them inside and led them to their assigned table.

Not long afterward, Samuel and Vanessa Sutton arrived.

The two of them had argued all the way from home over Olivia.

Vanessa couldn’t bear to leave her daughter behind and had wanted to sneak her into the banquet. Samuel had refused outright.

This was a banquet in Capital City. One careless mistake could get them thrown out. After finally securing an invitation, he wasn’t about to risk everything over something so reckless.

Their argument delayed them, and they hurried inside after presenting their invitations.

In the end, Olivia had been left at home. The moment her parents left, she flew into a rage and started smashing things.

The banquet hall’s first floor was reserved for dancing and socializing.

The second floor was for dinner.

The third floor contained several private rooms in case any unexpected situations

arose.

The attendants first escorted all the guests to the second floor.

Every table assignment had been carefully planned.

Iris had personally put a great deal of thought into the seating arrangements.

People with hostile relationships were seated as far apart as possible, while those with good relationships or potential business opportunities were placed together. The tables were also organized according to each family’s influence in Capital City and the size of their companies.

She and Zane Walker had spent considerable time working everything out.

Naturally, the guests from Kingsley were assigned to one of the more secluded tables.

Each guest was specifically instructed not to change seats.

“I think I just saw someone who looked like Iris.”

Samuel frowned and scolded Vanessa.

“Have you become obsessed or something? You think everyone looks like Iris! This is Stellar Venture’s banquet. Mr. Barclay might show up, sure–but Iris? She’s nowhere near qualified to get in here.”

“Fine, fine! I was just saying!”

The moment they sat down, they became restless. After confirming there were no particularly influential guests at their own table, they picked up their wine glasses and started introducing themselves to people at other tables.

“This time is no different. We’re partnering with Stellar Venture on a major project, and we’re definitely going to make a fortune!”

Assuming the couple must be close relatives or trusted associates of Zane Walker, they began treating them with considerable courtesy.

Xavier Hayes and Director Hayes had also been invited.
