Chapter 200 Kidnapped

:.

“Let’s go. We shouldn’t keep Noah waiting too long.”

With that, Ares took Iris’s hand and led her out of the bookstore.

“The couple who just left was gorgeous.”

“I know, right? He’s handsome, she’s beautiful. I wish we had more customers like that.”

Two employees chatted and laughed behind the counter.

For some reason, the comment struck a nerve with Olivia. She spun around and glared at them.

“How is he handsome? That’s only because you’ve never seen my fiancé!”

The employees looked completely baffled. One of the newer staff members, who wasn’t known for holding back, immediately shot back.

“Well, that guy came to pick up his fiancée. Why didn’t yours?”

“He’s busy in Capital City!” Olivia’s face darkened. “What kind of store is this? I’m a VIP customer, and this is how you talk to me? Where’s the manager? I want to file a complaint!”

Ever since becoming the Sutton family’s daughter, she had made a habit of purchasing membership programs wherever she went.

She was in the middle of demanding her rights as a customer when she noticed Vanessa’s situation had become even more embarrassing.

Vanessa was still trying to force a conversation with the piano association instructors.

The teachers‘ expressions had already become visibly impatient, though they were doing their best to remain polite.

Olivia immediately abandoned her argument with the employees.

The last thing she wanted was for Vanessa to humiliate herself in front of those

Compared to the chaos inside the bookstore, things were much quieter on Iris’s side.

“Is Noah studying at home?”

“Yeah. I told him to stay inside and not open the door for anyone.”

Worried Noah might get hungry, Ares had even ordered a plate of spaghetti to be delivered.

The two drove back to the old apartment building.

When they reached the front door, Iris inserted her key into the lock-

Then suddenly stopped.

A strange feeling hit her.

She grabbed the handle and pulled.

The door swung open.

Her heart sank.

The living room was a disaster.

Couch cushions had been thrown onto the floor.

Dirty shoeprints covered the room.

The container of spaghetti had been overturned, its contents scattered across the ground. Even the packet of grated Parmesan cheese sat unopened beside it.

Ares stepped inside behind her, his brows knitting together.

After examining the lock, he shook his head.

“Noah didn’t open the door from the inside. Someone picked the lock.”

Suppressing the panic rising inside her, Iris immediately began searching the apartment.

Chapter 200 Kidnapped

If Noah had been kidnapped, maybe the kidnappers had left something behind.

“Don’t panic,” Ares said. “I had people watching James. There’s a good chance he’s involved.”

He pulled out his phone and contacted his men.

The coffee table was cluttered with overturned items.

As Iris searched through the mess, she found writing on the back of a delivery receipt.

The message read:

[If you want him back alive, come alone with six million to the abandoned factory outside the city. You have twelve hours to gather the money. Call the police and the hostage dies.

At that moment, Ares received a report.

[James slipped away from our surveillance.]

His expression darkened. “The person behind this is probably the real planner.”

Someone like James wasn’t smart enough to orchestrate a kidnapping on his own.

Ares looked at Iris. “Don’t worry about the money. I’ll handle it.”

Then he added firmly:

“But you’re not going alone.”

They still didn’t know who was backing James.

He had no intention of letting Iris walk into a trap by herself.

Iris sat on the couch, staring at the note.

She already understood.

She had a history with James.

If they specifically demanded she bring the money herself, then the six million

wasn’t their only goal.

They wanted revenge,

“I’ll go.” Her voice was calm. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”

It was the fastest way to save Noah.

Noah couldn’t speak. He was physically weaker than most people. The longer he remained in their hands, the greater the risk.

Ares looked into her eyes and immediately knew he couldn’t change her mind.

When Iris made a decision, he had always supported her without reservation.

“Then at least bring something to defend yourself.”

Ares was already wondering whether he should somehow get a gun for her.

Then he watched Iris bend down and pick up the unopened packet of red pepper flakes that had come with Noah’s spaghetti.

He blinked. “What are you taking that for?”

“Just in case.”

At the abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city, Noah sat bound hand and foot in a corner.

“Now that you mention it, that older woman from the restaurant wasn’t bad- looking either. Maybe we shouldn’t have hit her right away.”

“You really have no standards. Her son is practically grown up and you’re still interested?”

“Ah-! Ah–1”

“Oh, you’ve got some guts?”
