Chapter 199 Comparing
:
Olivia had practiced this piece countless times.

She had originally planned to use it as a surprise for her next date with Ethan.
She never expected it would come in handy here instead.
Even after all that practice, her nerves still kicked in the moment her fingers touched the keys.
There were several sections she still wasn’t completely comfortable with, but muscle memory carried her through them. Overall, the performance was reasonably smooth.
When she finished, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
But no applause followed.
Several people recognized the piece immediately.
Croatian Rhapsody.
It was a very common choice. This piano sat in the bookstore every day, and countless people came to play it. Many performed pieces far more difficult than this one.
The fact that Olivia could get through it relatively smoothly was, frankly, nothing special.
“Olivia was amazing!”
Vanessa had recorded the entire performance and immediately began showering her with praise.
“I’ve said it before–my daughter is a genius! She’s only been practicing for a few weeks and can already play complete pieces. At this rate, she might become a world–famous pianist someday!”
As she spoke, she deliberately glanced toward Iris.
“Certainly better than some people who only know how to bully their younger

Olivia rose gracefully from the piano bench.

For once, she felt like she had finally beaten Iris in an area where Iris had no experience.
Her mood improved instantly.
She picked up her books and prepared to check out.
“Only knows how to read books without playing?”
Iris calmly returned the score she had been browsing to its shelf and walked over to the piano.
Olivia had already stood up.
Without hesitation, Iris sat down.
A bright, ethereal melody flowed effortlessly from her fingertips.
Not a single note stumbled.
Not a single pause.
It was Croatian Rhapsody.
The very same piece Olivia had just played.
The difference between the two performances was immediately obvious.
Olivia had only taken a few steps toward the checkout counter when the piano music reached her ears.
Whether someone understood music or not, anyone could hear it.
Iris’s performance was clearly superior.
Much superior.
Olivia froze.

Vanessa froze too.

Back when Iris lived with the Sutton family, she had barely studied violin, let alone piano.
So how could she suddenly play like this?
Had she learned from Zane Walker?
Or maybe Ares Barclay?
Olivia maintained a polite smile on the surface, but inside she was unraveling.
Why?
She had finally mastered a skill Iris had never learned.
So why could Iris suddenly play piano too?
When Iris finished, someone started clapping.
Soon the applause spread throughout the area.
Iris stood up without saying a word. She picked up Noah’s supplies and headed downstairs toward the checkout counter.
Just then, a woman who had been reading nearby hurried over.
“Miss! Wait a moment!” She stopped Iris and handed her a business card. “You played beautifully just now. Basic pieces reveal a person’s talent and fundamentals more than anything else. Do you currently have a piano teacher?”
The woman smiled warmly. “If not, here’s my card. I’m an instructor with the Capital City Piano Association. If you’re interested, please contact me.”
She had never expected that a trip to Kingsley would uncover such a promising young talent.
“Thank you. I’ll consider it.” Iris nodded politely.
She neither accepted nor rejected the offer outright.
The instructor returned to her seat in high spirits, already eager to share the

Meanwhile, Olivia had been convinced the woman was coming to speak with her.
And now she was heading back without showing the slightest intention of speaking to Olivia.
At last, Olivia began to panic.
That was a teacher from the Capital City Piano Association.
The instructor didn’t respond. She merely gave Vanessa an odd look.
