Vincent was about to point them in the right direction when he suddenly paused.

“Iris Noir?”

Because Capital University had two professors who were personally acquainted with Iris, all of their communication with the admissions office had centered on her name rather than on “Richard Noir’s daughter.”

“We’re from Capital University’s admissions office,” one of the representatives explained. “We’d like to ask about the relationship between Iris Noir and Mr. Richard Noir.”

The admissions officers were confused themselves. They had been wondering whether Iris might be some distant relative of the Noir family.

“She’s my sister,” Vincent replied.

Then he asked,

“Wait. Are you saying… Iris is the top scorer?”

The three admissions officers exchanged puzzled looks.

“Of course. Iris Noir.”

“Is there a problem?”

Vincent immediately understood.

Earlier, everyone had only been referring to “Miss Noir” or “the student.”

They had never actually said Chloe’s name.

So the top scorer wasn’t Chloe.

It was Iris.

At the same time, he considered Chloe’s feelings and chose not to reveal the truth immediately. Instead, he pointed the admissions officers toward the reception room and let them go inside first.

Representatives from nearly every major university in Capital City had arrived.

Some schools had even sent vice presidents.

There were also several reporters carrying cameras.

With so many people gathered in one place, the reception room looked more like a miniature press conference than a living room.

Richard and Eleanor were busy greeting guests, and Vincent never found an opportunity to explain what had happened.

The admissions officers all recognized one another.

After all, they competed for top students every year.

They weren’t exactly fond of each other and mostly kept to themselves.

The reporters, on the other hand, were ecstatic.

Photos here.

Photos there.

Questions everywhere.

How often did they get the chance to enter the home of the country’s richest family?

Naturally, they wanted as much material as possible.

“Congratulations, Chairman Noir!”

One of the admissions representatives from X University–the same person who had called Chloe earlier–was the first to speak.

“If I remember correctly, Mr. Noir himself was admitted to a world–renowned university overseas. What an incredible family of academic achievers.”

Then he smoothly moved on to his real purpose.

“Has Miss Noir decided which university she’d like to attend? We’d be happy to discuss the conditions offered by X University. Everything is negotiable.”

“That depends on her own wishes,” Richard replied.

Though he couldn’t help wondering-

Why was Chloe taking so long to get dressed?

Upstairs, Chloe was carefully selecting clothes and jewelry.

Knowing reporters were coming, she wanted to choose the outfit that would look best on camera.

A maid stood nearby assisting her.

“Miss Chloe, have you actually checked your exam results yet?”

Chloe examined herself in the mirror and answered impatiently,

“Why would I bother? I’m already the top scorer. They’ll tell me the results themselves soon enough.”

What she really needed to think about was how to answer reporters‘ questions.

At this point, even if Capital University begged her to enroll, she felt she’d need to think it over.

“Perfect.” She nodded at her reflection. “Go tell my parents I’ll be downstairs shortly.”

Almost an hour later, after finishing her hair, Chloe finally sent a maid downstairs with the message.

“Sir, Miss Chloe says she’ll be down in a moment.”

The instant those words reached the reception room, every admissions representative became fully alert.

The doors slowly opened.

Dressed like a princess attending a royal gala, Chloe stepped into the room wearing the most confident smile she could manage.

“Thank you all for waiting.”

She unveiled the flawless smile she had practiced in front of the mirror for ten minutes and waited for expressions of admiration to appear.

They never did.

Instead, the room fell into a strange silence.

One admissions officer from X University turned toward Richard. “Um… who is this young lady?”

Richard blinked. “Aren’t you here for her? She’s my daughter.”
