Chapter 21 Age Gap

Chapter 21 Age Gap

“Miss Iris, I’m here to pick you up—”

Julian walked up with a smile.

Then he noticed the scene.

And stopped dead in his tracks.

Olivia’s heart sank.

If Julian was here…

Then that man…

“Julian.”

The voice snapped him back to reality.

:

Julian hurried forward and stepped aside.

A moment later, Ares Barclay appeared at the top of the stairs.

His gaze immediately found Iris in the crowd.

A wounded teenager was still groaning at her feet.

Ares raised an eyebrow.

Had he arrived too late to play the hero?

The students had never encountered a man with such overwhelming presence.

One glance from him was enough to silence the entire floor.

Even Vivian was stunned.

She lowered her voice and asked Iris,

“Who is that? Do you know him?”

Iris considered the question carefully.

Calling them friends would be a stretch.

“We’ve met twice.”

Ares walked directly toward her.

The students instinctively stepped aside.

No one dared stand in his way.

“Do you need my help?”

“No.” Iris picked up her bag. “Let’s go.”

Just then, Vivian suddenly called out.

“Wait a moment, sir!”

Iris didn’t care about the incident.

Vivian did.

She thought Iris was staying silent because she didn’t want to cause trouble.

And this man clearly looked capable of handling trouble.

Ares stopped and turned.

His gaze settled on Vivian.

“This is my Aunt Vivian,” Iris explained.

Ares nodded politely.

Then, with perfect composure, said:

“Nice to meet you, Aunt Vivian.”

Iris immediately turned to stare at him.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Wait.

Wasn’t she my aunt?

Vivian was too focused on getting justice for Iris to notice the strange form of address.

“They’ve been bullying Iris,” she said indignantly. “She’s too timid to speak up for herself.”

She pointed toward the students.

“They told her she wasn’t allowed to leave until she finished everything on that table. At the very least, they owe her an apology.”

The students had just started to relax.

The moment they heard that, their expressions tightened again.

“W-We were just worried she wasn’t eating enough.”

One of them forced a laugh.

“We were only showing concern.”

Ares lowered his gaze toward the mountain of food piled across the table.

Then he smiled.

The sight made the students even more nervous.

He turned to Julian.

“Call the owner.”

A few minutes later, the restaurant owner hurried upstairs.

The moment he recognized Ares Barclay, his face changed.

“Mr. Barclay.”

Ares gestured toward the table.

“Watch them.” His smile remained pleasant. “They’re not allowed to leave until every bite is gone.”

The owner nodded so hard it looked painful.

“Of course, Mr. Barclay. Leave it to me.”

The students immediately looked miserable.

If they’d known this would happen, they never would have ordered so much food.

At this rate, they’d still be eating tomorrow.

“Let’s go.”

Once downstairs, Vivian declined Ares’s offer to drive her home.

She lived nearby.

Holding Iris’s hand, she looked reluctant to leave.

“Remember, sweetheart.” Her voice softened. “If you ever run into trouble, call me.”

She squeezed Iris’s hand.

“I may not have much money, but I’ll help however I can.”

“I know.” Iris smiled faintly.

“And I’ll find a way to treat your illness.”

Vivian laughed, assuming she was joking.

“Alright.” She patted Iris’s hand. “When you become a doctor someday, I’ll be waiting.”

After the car pulled away, Iris glanced into the rearview mirror.

Vivian was still standing exactly where they’d left her.

Watching until they disappeared from sight.

“You and your aunt seem very close.” Ares’s voice broke the silence.

“We are.” Iris nodded. “When I was little, I spent more time with her than anyone else.”

Of everyone connected to the Sutton family, Vivian was the only person she truly cared about.

Ares glanced at her. “Were those your classmates?”

“My former classmates.” She looked out the window. “I’m transferring to Capital Academy next week.”

Julian nearly twisted around in his seat.

“Wait.” His eyes widened. “Miss Iris, you’re still in high school?”

“I have three months until the college entrance exams.”

She answered calmly.

“I turned twenty a few days ago.” 2

Julian fell silent.

His brain struggled to place those two descriptions in the same sentence.

Ares, however, focused on something entirely different.

Twenty?

The age gap wasn’t actually that large.

“Julian.”

He suddenly spoke.

“Before we go to St. Grace, stop at Aurelia.”

Iris blinked. “You’re not going straight to the hospital?”

Aurelia was one of the most exclusive restaurants in the Capital.

Fortunately, it was only a few blocks away.

Julian immediately turned at the next intersection.

A few minutes later, the car stopped outside the restaurant.

Ares stepped out first.
