Chapter 212 The Gap
There were quite a few guests at the Sutton family’s banquet. Only a small portion were business owners or professional acquaintances. The rest were Samuel Sutton’s relatives from the countryside and Olivia Sutton’s classmates.
Because Vanessa had fallen out with her family over her marriage years ago, very few relatives from her side had come.
Overall, the crowd wasn’t exactly refined.
The moment they saw Iris toss the plate and fork back onto the table, one of Samuel’s relatives immediately shot to his feet and slammed a hand on the table.
“What the hell are you doing, girl? This is supposed to be a happy occasion, and you’re throwing dishes. around? That’s bad luck!”
Samuel felt humiliated as well. He walked up to Iris.
“Olivia didn’t mean any harm. What are you making such a fuss for? If she hadn’t invited you in, you probably would’ve never gotten the chance to eat at Creek Hall Restaurant in your life!”
Iris shot him a cold glance. “I never planned on attending your daughter’s graduation banquet, and I certainly don’t want any of her so–called good luck.”
“Samuel, aren’t you going to discipline her? Your adopted daughter is practically walking all over both of
you!”
Vanessa wholeheartedly agreed. She had wanted to say the same thing for a long time.
“Exactly! She really doesn’t know how to appreciate kindness!”
The private dining room was packed. With so many people talking at once, Iris felt as though dozens of flies were buzzing around her ears.
She turned to leave.
“Don’t you dare leave! You owe Olivia an apology today!”
Urged on by the crowd, Samuel grabbed Iris’s arm.
Speechless, Iris was about to shake him off when the door to the private room suddenly opened.
A manager entered with several servers.
One of the Sutton family’s relatives trailed behind them.
“Mr. Sutton, we had an agreement. Your guests aren’t supposed to wander around freely. This gen not only entered another banquet room, but he was also smoking there.”
The manager was clearly unhappy

The moment Samuel saw the expression on his face, his confidence vanished. He immediately loosened
grip on Iris.
“I’m sorry. That’s my oversight. There are just too many people here.
He forced a smile.
The manager frowned as he swept his gaze around the room.
They had practically begged for credit to rent this private room, and now they’d packed in/so many people it looked like a can of sardines.
He was just about to issue a warning and leave when his eyes landed on Iris beside Samuel
His expression instantly changed.
“Miss Noir? Why are you here? We’ve been looking everywhere for you. We couldn’t reach you by phone either.”
His tone was polite and respectful—completely different from the way he’d spoken to Samuel moments earlier.
Iris pulled out her phone and glanced at it.
“Sorry. It was too noisy in here. I didn’t hear it.”
“No problem, no problem. Are you… also a guest here?”
The manager carefully studied her expression, trying to figure out her relationship with Samuel.
If they were close, then he’d just openly shown Samuel his displeasure…
“We have absolutely nothing to do with her!”
Vanessa quickly distanced herself, assuming Iris had somehow gotten herself into trouble outside.
“My daughter only invited her in out of kindness so she could grab a bite to eat, and she still acted ungrateful!”
The manager immediately relaxed.
“In that case, let’s head out. Everyone is waiting for you.”
Olivia still didn’t understand what was happening. She assumed they were rushing Iris to a job interview.
“Sorry, Iris,” she said softly. “I shouldn’t have dragged you in here. You should go. If you’re late for your interview, what if it affects your chances of getting hired?”
The manager had been preparing to escort Iris out personally.
Hearing that, he froze. Interview?”

“Isn’t she here to interview for a waitress position?” Vanessa blurted out bluntly.

The manager nearly blacked out. What kind of people was this family? He was starting to regret ever letting them rent the room. Every word out of their mouths seemed designed to offend someone.
“A waitress?” he exclaimed. “Miss Noir is here to tour our venue. She’s planning to hold her graduation banquet here!”
“You’re having a graduation banquet roo?” Vanessa sneered. “So you actually took the college entrance exam? Let me guess–the rich guy backing you paid for it. What score did you get that makes you think you’re qualified to celebrate?”
“Ma’am, if you continue spreading false rumors and insulting one of our valued clients/we’ll have no choice but to ask you to leave.”
The manager’s expression turned cold.
At this point, he was beginning to suspect this family had been sent by a competitor to cause trouble.
“Miss Noir is an honored guest of Creek Hall. It is our privilege that she chose us. In fact, we were the ones who invited her!”
“Invited her? Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake?” Olivia asked quietly. “My sister doesn’t have much

Olivia didn’t realize these people were simply enjoying the drama. She thought they were standing up for
“Why does she get special treatment?” He laughed. “Because Miss Noir is the top scorer in the entire college entrance examination! S–Level! Creek Hall is more than willing to provide our best venue for her celebration free of charge!”
