Chapter 24 Good Idea
Julian Cross emerged from the crowd.
The moment he spotted her, he waved enthusiastically.
Her appearance made her impossible to miss.

Even standing among hundreds of students, she drew attention effortlessly.
Julian opened the passenger door and lifted out an alarming number of shopping bags.
Then he hurried toward her.
“Julian?” Iris blinked. “What are you doing here?”
Julian shoved the bags into her arms before she could escape.
“Mr. Barclay asked me to bring you lunch.”
Bag after bag appeared.
“There are dishes prepared the way you like them.”
“And desserts.”
“And drinks.”
“And a few snacks.”
Iris looked down at the mountain of food.
“The school has a cafeteria.”
“And I can’t eat all of this.”
“Then share it with your classmates.” Julian smiled. “Mr. Barclay said you’re at the age where you should be eating more and growing properly.”

His expression became slightly helpless.
“Miss Emma insisted we bring extra too.”

Before Iris could return anything, Julian jumped back toward the car.
“I have another meeting!”
Then he practically fled.
The Rolls-Royce disappeared seconds later.
Sophie stood frozen.
“What just happened?”
Then she looked down at one of the bags.
Her eyes widened.
“No way.”
She grabbed Iris’s arm.
“This is from Aurelia.”
One of the most exclusive restaurants in the city.
People booked months in advance.
“You got all this delivered?” She looked ready to cry. “Can I have one bite?”
Iris laughed.
“One bite?”
She lifted a bag.
“Help me finish it.”

At that exact moment, Emma Barclay sat proudly inside a private dining room at Aurelia.
She hugged her AI teddy bear.
“Bear.”
The toy’s eyes lit up.
“How do you make someone like you?”
The bear processed for a moment.
Then replied:
“As previously explained, Emma. The fastest way to a person’s heart is through their stomach.”
Emma nodded seriously.
“Exactly.” She grinned. “I sent Iris so much food. She definitely likes me more now.”
The dining room door opened.
Julian had just returned from the school.
Emma immediately jumped to her feet.
“Uncle Julian!”
She ran over.
“How did she react?”
Julian laughed. “She seemed happy.”
Then he glanced toward Ares.
“Although Mr. Barclay added quite a few items himself.”

Emma froze.
Slowly.
Very slowly.
She turned toward her uncle.
Across the table, Ares calmly continued eating his pasta.
“You added food?” Emma narrowed her eyes. “You stole my idea.”
Ares finished his final bite.
Set down his fork.
Then lightly tapped her forehead.
“Good idea.” He stood. “Come up with a few more.”

Sophie glanced at Iris with undisguised curiosity.
“So…” She dragged out the word. “The guy who delivered all that food.”
Iris already knew where this was going.
“What about him?”
Sophie gasped dramatically. “Is he your boyfriend?”
Iris nearly laughed.
“You’re worried about that?” She raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were worried about Mason.”
Sophie grinned and waved her phone.

“My dad called this morning.” She shrugged. “I’m an art student. He found me a private tutor for my academic subjects. Starting next week, I won’t be at school much.”
Then her smile faded slightly.
“But what about you?”
She looked genuinely concerned.
“You still have three months left. If Mason keeps targeting you, things could get ugly.”
“I’m not worried.”
In Iris’s eyes, Mason Reed ranked somewhere between an annoying mosquito and a minor inconvenience.
Hardly worth thinking about.
Back in the classroom, Sophie immediately opened one of the containers.
The aroma exploded into the room.
Half the class turned around at once.
“Oh my God.” Sophie’s eyes widened. “This looks incredible.”
The presentation alone looked worthy of a luxury restaurant advertisement.
Iris glanced around the room.
“Anyone want some?”
Several students visibly perked up.
Then they remembered Mason.
The excitement disappeared just as quickly.

What if one of Mason’s friends saw them?
No thanks.
The risk wasn’t worth it.
Seeing no volunteers, Sophie happily claimed victory.
“More for me.”
A few classmates watched in silent agony.
Their cafeteria lunches suddenly tasted like cardboard.
The afternoon passed uneventfully.
Iris slept through most of it.

Occasionally she woke long enough to hear a few minutes of a lecture before drifting off again.
The problem wasn’t school.
The problem was Ferran Global.
The company’s headquarters operated overseas, and the time difference meant financial reports often arrived in the middle of the night.
Recently, several urgent decisions required her personal approval.
By the time the final bell rang, she felt more exhausted than when classes had started.
She sent a message to her driver.
[I’ll be late. Don’t wait.]
Then she headed off campus alone.

Vivian’s son was meeting her nearby to deliver something.
At the school gates, Sophie walked beside her.

When they reached the narrow alley separating the campus from a row of cafés, Sophie stopped.
“Be careful here.” Her expression turned serious. “Students from other schools hang around this area all the time. They love picking fights. Just walk straight through.”
