Chapter 253 Olivia’s Promise
President Waden had been startled by the crying coming through the phone.
After listening carefully, he finally pieced everything together.
“So you’re the reporter who published that fabricated article?”
His voice turned icy.

“Capital University will immediately issue a public clarification, restore Ms. Noir admission, and formally condemn both you and your newspaper.”
Those final words drained the last trace of hope from Yanna’s face.
She turned back to Iris, crying even harder.
“I only made one mistake…”
“I just graduated… I’m still new to this profession…”
“Please… don’t hold me responsible…”
The second floor had already descended into complete chaos.
Just as Yanna opened her mouth to beg again-
A woman’s voice floated up from the staircase.
“I’m just here to meet someone. There’s no need to follow me.”
A graceful figure in a pale green dress slowly appeared at the top of the stairs.
The instant Yanna saw her, her eyes widened.
She grabbed Iris’s sleeve excitedly.
“It’s her!”
“It’s her!”
“She’s the one!”
“She’s the one who paid me to write those stories about you!”
Although she’d never clearly seen the woman’s face before, she would never forget that soft, delicate voice.
She recognized it immediately.
Olivia froze.

Her gaze shifted toward the group.
The moment she saw Yanna practically kneeling at Iris’s feet, her brows drew together.
In an instant, she understood that something had gone terribly wrong.
Even so, she forced a sweet smile onto her face.”
“Iris? What a coincidence. I didn’t expect to see you here.”
There were no other guests on the second floor.
Iris had reserved the entire level for the day.

The customers downstairs were curious about the commotion, but the staff had been instructed not to allow anyone upstairs.
Olivia quickly regained her composure and flashed Iris and the others a gentle smile.
“You’re the one who was sitting next to Stella at the graduation banquet!” julie immediately recognized her. “What are you doing here? Iris rented out this entire floor today. Who are you here to see? Her?”
Olivia cursed inwardly.
She shouldn’t have said anything.
Wasn’t Yanna the one who had asked her to come here?
The moment she saw the expression on Iris’s face, realization struck.
She had walked straight into a trap.
Like a drowning person spotting a lifeline, Yanna immediately pointed at Olivia.
“It’s her! She’s the one who told me Iris was a terrible person and constantly bullied her! She’s the one who hinted that I needed to do the interview this way if I wanted traffic!”
She repeated the accusation over and over, convinced that if she exposed Olivia, she might save herself.
Naturally, Olivia had no intention of admitting anything.
She played dumb flawlessly.
“What are you talking about? I don’t even know you. Why would I tell you to do anything?”
Yanna’s attention had completely shifted away from Iris.
Instead of grabbing Iris, she lunged toward Olivia and clutched her arm.
“Don’t leave! If you leave, I’m finished!”

Iris had suspected from the very beginning that Olivia was behind everything.

Now she was more interested in seeing how these two women would get themselves out of the mess.
Vice Principal Watson and the others were equally confused, but they had pieced together the basics.
Apparently, Iris’s younger sister had instructed the reporter to do all of this.
The relationship between these sisters was far more complicated than they had imagined.
Olivia desperately wanted to shake Yanna off.
But there were too many people watching.
She couldn’t afford to look uncivilized.
Pretending she was trying to leave, she allowed Yanna to stop her.
The two women backed away several steps, gradually moving farther from Iris and the others.
Then Olivia forcefully pulled Yanna to her feet while maintaining her gentle smile.
“You’ve mistaken me for someone else.” Her voice remained calm and pleasant. “Let’s settle down. Tell me exactly what happened from the beginning.”
Yanna was slightly taller than she was.
Using Yanna’s body to block everyone’s view, Olivia lowered her voice.
“Five million dollars.”
Yanna froze.
Olivia spoke rapidly, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Five million. Take the blame for this.”
“Our family plans to enter the media industry in the future. When that happens, I’ll personally make sure you’re promoted to editor–in–chief.”
She continued before Yanna could react.
“At this point, dragging me down won’t save you. They won’t let you go just because you expose me. But if you shoulder everything yourself and let me walk away, you’ll have financial security and a future.”
Yanna found herself staring directly into Olivia’s eyes.
The light–brown contact lenses and long curled eyelashes made her look like an expensive porcelain doll.

“We’ll be leaving as well.” He cleared his throat. “We’ve learned everything we needed to know. We’ll handle the matter exactly as Principal Wade instructed.”
