Chapter 257 Collecting Debt
Ares picked up a fresh warm towel and gently took Iris’s hand.
He carefully wiped her fingers.
Iris let him.
“He never actually touched me.”

“It’s not because of that.” Ares smiled helplessly. “You used a lot of force twisting his wrist/The towel’s warm. It’ll help your hand relax.”
He paused.
“As for that man… you’ll never see him in Capital City again.”
Ares was gentle…
But only with Iris.
To everyone else, he was still the decisive, ruthless head of the Barclay family.
After being dumped outside the restaurant, Alden spent nearly half an hour struggling to flag down a taxi.
At the hospital, his wrist had barely been bandaged when another call came.
His company’s investors had withdrawn their funding.
His world instantly collapsed.
It can’t be… was it because of that couple?
No way… I can’t be that unlucky…
Emily returned to the Wolfe residence.
The moment she stepped through the front door-
A thick book flew across the room.
Smack!
It struck her squarely on the forehead.
Blood immediately trickled down her face.
“What is wrong with you?” Mr. Wolfe roared. “I told you to have dinner with Mr. Ford! He called and
chewed us out!”

His face was red with anger.
“I asked you to win over Ares, and you couldn’t do it.”
“Now I ask you to have one dinner with Mr. Ford, and you can’t even manage that!”
“What exactly have I been raising you for?”
Emily lowered her head.
All she could think about…
Were Iris’s words at the restaurant.
If you don’t change… things like this will only happen more and more.
But she’d spent her entire life obeying others.
She had never learned how to fight back.
Mrs. Wolfe quickly stepped in to play the peacemaker, wrapping an arm around her daughter.
“Dear, don’t be so hard on her. Mr. Ford is old enough to be her father.”
“Our Emily just turned twenty. Can’t we find someone else?”
Mr. Wolfe snorted coldly. He threw a thick stack of photographs into Emily’s face.
“Pick one. Every man here is someone who can benefit the Wolfe family.”
Emily looked down at the photos.
Then she remembered Iris effortlessly snapping Alden’s wrist.
And the words Iris had spoken.
She slowly shook her head.
“N–No…”

The moment Emily managed to force out a single word, everyone in the living room turned to look at her.
Mr. Wolfe’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What did you say?”
Emily immediately lowered her head.
“Nothing.”
She glanced around at the faces staring back at her.
In the end, she said nothing more.

She still didn’t have the courage to resist.
Only then did her father nod in satisfaction.
“You’d better not start entertaining any foolish ideas. Know your place in this family.”
The only cousin in the Wolfe family who was actually close to Emily couldn’t help speaking up

“I’ve met that Mr. Ford before. He’s overweight, unattractive, and awful. Emily is young and/beaut
such a waste.”
Mr. Wolfe snorted. “It’s not as though we never arranged good marriage prospects for her before. She’s the one who didn’t appreciate them.”
Then something occurred to him.
“Since you refuse to cooperate with the matches we’ve arranged, I’ll give you one final opportunity.” His voice hardened. “Since you’re incapable of attracting Ares’s attention, we’ll have to deal with Iris instead.”
Emily froze. “You’ll find a way to get rid of her.”
Even Mrs. Wolfe was startled.
She had always viewed Emily as a tool for the family’s marriage alliances, but she had never wanted her daughter turned into something worse.
“Honey, isn’t that going too far?”
“Of course I’m not telling her to do it herself.” Mr. Wolfe waved dismissively. “All she has to do is lure Iris to the right place.”
He had analyzed the situation thoroughly.
For all these years, Ares had never shown interest in any woman.
Except Iris.
Remove the only obstacle, and Emily’s chances would increase dramatically.

“I’m being more than fair,” Mr. Wolfe pointed toward the photographs scattered across the table. “You have two choices.”
“Either make Iris disappear…” His finger tapped the photos. “…or choose one of these men and get married.”
The men in the pictures were all in their thirties or forties.
Each looked remarkably similar to Alden–overweight, greasy, and unpleasant.

When Evelyn heard the suggestion, she immediately supported it and urged Julie to invite Iris over as a
tutor.
She had also heard how Iris had practically single–handedly raised the performance of an entire class at Capital Preparatory Academy.
“Boss, perfect timing!” He practically pounced on her. “I need you to help collect a debt.”
