Meanwhile, the company’s executives had already received the receptionist’s call.
When they heard that a young woman had arrived to collect the debt, nobody took it seriously.
“What’s the big deal?” One executive laughed. “It’s not like President Walker came personally
“Exactly,” another agreed. “Last time he couldn’t do anything either. Stellar Venture really thinks sing a woman will somehow work better?”
The company’s owner, Teddy Donovan, let out a mocking chuckle and lowered his feet from the coffee table.
“The money’s already tied up in overseas projects.” He smirked. “Those projects are guaranteed to make profit. There’s no way we’re pulling funds out now,”
“Tell Stellar Venture to wait another few months.”
The corner of his mouth twisted upward.
“And as for dealing with women?” He laughed confidently. “That’s my specialty.”
The administrative assistant led Iris and her team into a reception room.
A few minutes later, Mr. Donovan entered with one of his own assistants.
The first thing he noticed was how young Iris looked.
That immediately put him at ease.
Young people were usually easier to fool.
But when he got close enough to see her face clearly, he paused.
Wasn’t this the girl from the second–anniversary banquet?
President Walker had introduced her as a friend.
And hadn’t she been connected to Ares Barclay somehow?
Mr. Donovan had been sitting too far away that day to hear the details. He hadn’t expected her to be the one showing up today.
Subconsciously, he straightened his posture.
Zane’s assistant spoke first.
“We’re here to recover the outstanding debt. These are the transaction records documenting the original investment.”

The opening was exactly the same as before.
MA Donovan relaxed.

Still, because the person sitting across from him was Iris, his tone was noticeably softer than during previous negotiations.
“It’s not that we refuse to repay the money.” He spread his hands helplessly. “The funds are locked in ongoing projects. We simply can’t withdraw them right now. Could Stellar Venture give us a little re
time?”
With a friendly smile, Mr. Donovan poured a glass of fruit tea and slid it toward Iris.
“Miss Noir, perhaps you could speak to President Walker for us. We really are facing difficulties.”
The tea stopped in front of her.
But Iris made no move to pick it up.
The assistant gestured behind her.
“We brought accountants and members of our finance team with us today. If there are any issues with the books or anything that’s difficult to reconcile, they’re happy to help.”
Mr. Donovan immediately caught the implication.
He’d expected this visit.
“Of course. Naturally.”
He gave his own assistant a subtle look.
The assistant promptly retrieved a tablet from the office and handed it to the accountant standing behind
Iris.
While everyone was occupied, Iris quietly surveyed the reception room.
The décor was understated.
Its style matched the estimated company valuation she’d seen in the information Zane Walker had given
her.
Several framed photos of key employees sat neatly on the shelves.
But…
As the secretary came in with tea, she instinctively prepared fruit tea for Iris.
The moment she noticed Iris wasn’t interested, she smoothly switched to the same premium tea everyone else was drinking.

Then, without drawing attention, she leaned toward one of the security personnel accompanyinger and quietly whispered a few instructions.
The guard nodded and slipped out of the room.
Meanwhile, one of the accountants had finished reviewing the financial statements on the tablet.
She looked up and shook her head.
“Miss Noir, I don’t see any obvious problems with these reports.”
Iris held out her hand.
“Let me see.”
The accountant placed the tablet into her palm.
Mr. Donovan smiled politely. “Miss Noir, even the professionals say everything looks fine. I doubt you’ll get much out of staring at it.”
Hidden beneath his smile was quiet satisfaction. He’d paid a fortune to hire this accountant. The books had been crafted flawlessly.
Every trace of Stellar Venture‘ funds being funneled into illegal overseas investments had been erased.
As he spoke, he reached to take the tablet back.
Iris shifted slightly.
His hand grabbed nothing but air.
The awkward miss made his smile stiffen.
“Miss, these are confidential company documents. It’s probably best not to browse through them randomly. If something gets deleted by accident, that would be troublesome. If you’d simply like a tablet to use, I can have someone bring you another one.”
His tone was the same one adults used to humor children.
Iris ignored him completely. She continued flipping through the company’s financial records.
“You can look as many times as you’d like. It won’t change anything.”
Mr. Donovan barely spared her a glance. To him, Iris was simply someone delivering Zane Walker’s instructions.
