Chapter 261 Gift Shopping
Knowing Iris was coming, Julie had prepared everything in advance.
She’d tidied her room and even asked the house staff to cut up Iris’s favorite fruits.
The moment Iris walked in, Julie happily pulled her over to sit down.
“My mom wasn’t thrilled about it… but she finally agreed to let you tutor me.”
Iris sat at Julie’s desk, flipping through her exam papers.
Evelyn Young had always treated her warmly.
She’d also been wanting to visit the elderly woman.
Julie rested her chin on her hands and sighed dramatically.
“I’ve said so many nice things about you to my mom. She just won’t listen.”

“Honestly, the fact that she’s willing to let you come over at all is because I’ve been wearing her down.”
She still hoped her parents would someday recognize that she’d chosen a wonderful friend.
Iris calmly marked several large red X’s across Julie’s answers.
“I’m not trying to become legal tender. I don’t need everyone to like me.”
She could clearly sense Rumi’s hostility toward her.
And she had no intention of forcing a relationship with someone who disliked her.
Julie looked at the bright red X’s and felt her heart sink.
She quickly changed the subject.
“Let’s have dinner with Grandma later! You have to try our new chef’s cooking!”
Evelyn Young was overjoyed.
During dinner, she even video–called Theodore just to show off that Iris was eating with them.
“Grandma, your hair looks beautiful.”
Every time Iris saw Evelyn, the older woman looked healthier than before.
Her once–gray hair had been dyed a soft, elegant light brown.
“Oh, that’s right.” Evelyn suddenly looked around. “Why hasn’t your uncle come home yet? What kind of job makes someone hand over their phone?”

Lately, she found herself thinking about Rupert Young no matter what she was doing.
June instinctively glanced at Iris, feeling a little guilty.
“I’m not sure either, Grandma. Maybe Uncle will come back on his own in a little while.”
As she spoke, she placed another helping of food into Evelyn’s plate.
Evelyn looked at her quietly.
Then she simply ate the food.
She didn’t ask any more questions.

After lunch, Evelyn Young kept Iris with her for another round of conversation before finally letting the girls return upstairs to continue studying.
“Is your uncle still being kept locked up?”
Once the house staff had left and she was certain no one else was in the room, Julie scooted closer to Iris and lowered her voice.
“Actually… my uncle escaped a few days ago.”
Click.
The retractable pen in Iris’s hand snapped shut.
“When?”
Seeing Iris suddenly turn serious, Julie instinctively shrank back a little.
“I’m not exactly sure. Maybe two days ago?” she said. “A servant went in to bring him food and found the room empty. The window was still open.”
She frowned.
“What’s strange is that everyone was keeping a close eye on him. They even tied his hands because they were afraid he’d go crazy and run off. I have no idea how he managed to escape.”
Iris immediately thought back to the night she had seen Rupert Young speaking with Steven outside the Young family villa.
There was a strong chance Steven had helped Rupert escape.
After all, Rupert wasn’t the type to simply walk away from the Young family’s fortune. More importantly those resources could still be useful if he intended to move against Iris and Jet Xu.
If Rupert had truly been rescued, Evelyn Young could once again become a target.
“Don’t leave Grandma Evelyn alone for the next few days.”

Julie didn’t fully understand what Iris meant, but she obediently nodded.
“Enough about that. How did the debt collection go? Anything interesting happen?”

After solving only two practice problems, Julie was already getting sleepy and was clearly looking for an excuse to chat.
“It went smoothly.“–
“That’s it?” Julie’s eyes widened. “Come on, tell me more! You always talk so little. Doesn’t it/drive on crazy keeping everything bottled up?”
She pestered Iris relentlessly until Iris finally gave in and summarized what had happened.
When she finished, Julie looked even more impressed.
“So you actually know people overseas too?” Her eyes sparkled. “That’s incredible!”
She slapped the desk excitedly.
“Serves them right! Those illegal organizations should’ve been wiped out ages ago! And that Mr. Donovan isn’t any better. My parents said he’s had affairs with half the women in the city.”
