Chapter 269 Unforgivable Acts
Chapter 269 Unforgivable Acts
The moment the words left Iris’s mouth, Mr. Han–who had been lying on the floor covered in suddenly began coughing.
The sound was weak, and fresh blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
His fingers twitched.
Then, little by little, he started breathing again.
“A ghost! He came back from the dead!”

Rupert had genuinely believed Mr. Han was dead. Terrified, he jumped backward and slammed straight into the door with a loud bang.
Steven’s expression darkened.
How had she done that?
The suspended–death technique had been his own creation.
And he was supposed to be the only person with the antidote.
Knock, Knock Knock.
Another round of knocking came from outside.
Steven immediately turned to Rupert.
“Didn’t I tell you not to call an ambulance yet?”
“It wasn’t me! I didn’t call anyone!”
His face instantly changed.
Iris stood and headed for the door.
“I did.”

She glanced back at them.
“He needs immediate medical treatment.”
What she had just done had only preserved Mr. Han’s life temporarily. With that many stab wounds, he needed to get to a hospital as soon as possible.
“Stop right there!”
Realizing their scheme had been exposed, Steven lunged forward to stop her by force.

But Iris sidestepped effortlessly.
The two exchanged several quick moves in the cramped living room.
Steven had never expected Iris’s combat skills to be this good.
His original plan had been simple–subdue Iris and escape through the window with Rupert befo anyone arrived.
Instead, he couldn’t even get close to her.
Several times, he nearly ended up being restrained himself.
Bang!
The people outside knocked twice more.
When nobody answered, they lost patience and kicked the door open.
Steven had retreated near the window during the fight.
The moment he saw who had entered, he abandoned any thought of continuing.
Standing outside was Ares Barclay.
Without hesitation, Steven vaulted through the window and fled.
“Hey! Wait!”
Rupert tried to follow him.
Unfortunately, he was nowhere near as agile.
Before he could climb out, Iris grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back into the room.
The first thing Ares noticed was the blood staining Iris’s clothes.
His heart nearly stopped.
Only after reaching her side and confirming she wasn’t injured did he finally breathe again.
“Get Mr. Han to the hospital first.”
Iris pointed toward the man lying on the floor, still covered in blood.
Ares noticed Rupert was still looking for a chance to escape.
One of his men immediately understood.
He stepped forward and kicked Rupert behind the knee, forcing him down.

Ares took Iris’s hand.
“A for you…”
His gaze settled on Rupert.
“We have a few questions we’d like answered.”
The unconscious Mr. Han was rushed to the hospital.
Rupert, meanwhile, was escorted back to the Young family by Ares’s men.
Inside the car, Ares accepted a packet of wet wipes from Julian and carefully cleaned every trace of blood from Iris’s fingers.
“What about Julie?”
Ares replied, “Your brother already rescued her. She’s smart. She pretended to pass out and managed to tell us most of their plan.”
Rupert and Steven had only confiscated Julie’s phone.
But a few days earlier, Iris had given her a Bluetooth earpiece capable of direct voice communication.
As soon as they locked her up, Julie relayed everything she overheard to Iris.
Iris had already suspected they would make a move within the next couple of days.
During one of her dates with Ares, she had mentioned the possibility.
The moment he heard about it, Ares arranged for people to keep watch over her and respond immediately if anything happened.
Steven thought his plan was unfolding perfectly.
What he didn’t realize was that Iris had simply allowed it to appear that way.
Unfortunately, he had escaped too quickly.
“She may be elderly, but she’s far from confused. She deserves to know.”
Their first stop was St. Grace Medical Center.
