“Yes. The Noir and Barclay families had a marriage arrangement long ago, so Ares and I were technically matched through that arrangement. But now we’re in a normal romantic relationship.”
Ares Barclay had just finished a phone call and was about to walk into the private room when he heard Iris personally admit that they were in a relationship.
An uncontrollable smile immediately appeared on his face.
“So that’s what happened! That brat actually dared to lie to me!”
After realizing he had made such a huge misunderstanding, Mr. Liam apologized to Ares.
“My apologies, Mr. Barclay. I had no idea Iris was your fiancée, and I certainly didn’t know the two of you were so close.”
As he spoke, he kicked Darius under the table.
Wearing a miserable expression, Darius complained, “You can’t blame me! How was I supposed to know you’d immediately try to talk them out of being together? I was only trying to make a joke.”
Iris picked up the menu. “If you wanted to make a joke, then you’re paying for dinner.”
“Okay, okay. I’ll pay.”
Darius grabbed another menu from the table, thinking that a family–style restaurant couldn’t possibly be that expensive.
But as Iris calmly listed dish after dish, his brows gradually furrowed.
By the time Ares finished adding his own selections, Darius practically wanted to hide under the table.
How was a family–style restaurant this expensive?
Was this daylight robbery?
To make matters worse, Ares seemed to be taking revenge. He deliberately ordered the most expensive dishes on the menu. He even selected several secret items that were only available to Black Card members and told Gordon not to apply any discounts. D
“Charge everything at full price.”
When the bill was finally printed, Darius stared at the endless list of charges and felt as if the sky had collapsed.
Even if someone sold him, he still wouldn’t have enough money to pay for this meal!
In the end, he had to borrow money from Mr. Liam before he could settle the bill.
The experience taught him a valuable lesson:

During dinner, Mr. Liam also brought up the international competition and his plan to take Iris overseas.
He had assumed Ares would object.
After all, most young men who had just started dating wanted to spend every possible moment wither girlfriends.
To his surprise, Ares didn’t oppose it at all.
Instead, he turned to Iris and said, “Be careful while you’re abroad. If anything happens, contact any of my people in the area. They’ll help you unconditionally.”
After a few drinks, Mr. Liam couldn’t help but admire him.
“Many men want their girlfriends to be delicate little birds who depend on them. But your perspective is different, Mr. Barclay.”
Under the table, Ares gently intertwined his fingers with Iris’s.
“Iris was never meant to be a little bird that relies on someone else,” he said softly.
“She was born to be an eagle soaring across a vast sky. I want to watch her reach whatever heights she dreams of and accomplish everything she wants to accomplish.”
He paused.
“And at the same time, I’ll always be the foundation she can stand on.”
“Excellent. Very well said!” Mr. Liam raised his glass and clinked it against Ares’s. “Entrusting Iris to you finally puts my mind at ease. Among the wealthy young heirs in Capital City, there aren’t many who think the way you do.”
After Mr. Liam and Darius left, only Ares and Iris remained outside the restaurant.
Julian was off duty that day, and since Ares had been drinking, Iris had no choice but to drive.
She had been curious about Ares’s new car for a while and was eager to try it out.
“This thing has great performance.”
After settling into the driver’s seat and inspecting the controls, she gave her sincere approval.
Ares, slightly unsteady on his feet, was promptly pushed into the passenger seat.
Iris started the engine, but when she noticed that he still hadn’t fastened his seat belt, she sighed and leaned across to help him.

“You didn’t even drink that much. How are you already drunk?”
As he moved closer, she caught the pleasant scent of his woody cologne.

Strangely enough, unlike the previous times, she didn’t experience that odd sensation around hin
Just as she reached for the seat belt beside him, the hand supporting her weight slipped.
The next second, she tumbled directly into his arms.
Ares let out a muffled grunt from the impact.
After several seconds, he finally recovered enough to turn around.
Just in time to catch the mischievous smile flashing across Iris’s face.
