The car came to a smooth step outside the estate.

As soon as Ares stepped inside, Julian hurried over. Earlier, he had locked Jody in the most secure cell of the underground basement-a windowless room that had never seen sunlight, with no ventilation and guards stationed around the clock

Before Ares could ask anything, a maid rushed toward him, ganic written all over her face. She thrust a test tube into his hand

“Mr. Barclay… Miss Emma has been taken!”

“What?” His expression changed instantly.

He strode toward Emma’s bedroom.

The room was in complete disarray. Furniture had been overturned, clear signs of a struggle covered the floor, and one of the guards lay motionless in a pool of blood.

Ares turned sharply toward the maid.

“Where’s Iris?” His bloodshot eyes frightened her so badly that she could barely speak.

“M-Miss Iris… she… she jumped out the window.”

“Before she left, she told me to give you this. She said you would know where to find her.”

“I asked where you should go, but… before I could finish, she was already gone.”

For a brief moment, Ares’s mind went blank.

Then he forced himself to calm down.

Iris would never act recklessly. She must have discovered the kidnappers’ trail and gone after them.

He immediately contacted Julian. “Track Iris’s location.”

Fortunately, she was still wearing the bracelet he had given her.

The signal showed she was less than two kilometers from the estate.

“Julian, gather everyone immediately.”

“Form a five-kilometer perimeter centered on Iris’s location and tighten the search inward.”

“I’ll head there first.”

Julian hesitated. “Boss… going alone is too dangerous.”

Ares looked at him steadily. “Emma and Iris are both there. Don’t you trust me?”

Their eyes met.

Julian suddenly remembered Ares during special training years ago–

One man taking on twenty opponents without suffering a single defeat.

He slowly nodded.

“I’ll gather the team. Please be careful, Boss.”

Meanwhile, Iris continued following every trace the kidnappers had left behind.

Whoever had taken Emma was moving much faster than she’d anticipated.

As she rounded a corner, she spotted a man over six feet tall sprinting into the distance.

Instinctively, she prepared to chase him.

Then something clicked.

Without hesitation, she turned and ran in the opposite direction.

Less than a mile later, she noticed an unusually quiet courtyard.

Too quiet.

It didn’t feel like a home where people actually lived.

Lowering her body, she slipped inside.

There, lying peacefully in the yard, was a little girl.

Her age and sleeping posture resembled Emma’s…

But the face was completely different.

Disappointed, Iris turned to leave.

Yet something continued to bother her.

She stopped.

Judging from the footprints beneath the bedroom window and the speed she’d maintained while chasing them…

Even a well-trained adult carrying an unconscious child shouldn’t have been able to outrun her.

The math simply didn’t add up.

Whenever something didn’t make sense….

Stopping to think was often the fastest way forward.

Closing her eyes, Iris replayed every detail from the moment she discovered the kidnapping.

The struggle inside the room.

The jump through the window.

The escape route

The maximum distance agrown man carrying a child could cover on foot.

Then suddenly-

“I’ve got it.” A faint smile crossed her lips. “I didn’t expect someone in the United States to understand the Thirty-Six Stratagems.”

Instead of continuing forward, she calmly walked back.

She was convinced that only moments earlier…

She had unknowingly passed right by Emma.

When Iris returned to the strange courtyard, the atmosphere had completely changed.

The front gate was shut tightly.

The ordinary appearance from before had vanished.

“As I thought.”

She found a secluded spot and silently vaulted over the wall.

A massive willow tree provided perfect cover.

The courtyard itself appeared empty.

But Iris was certain there were at least four elite fighters inside the house.
