Chapter 372 From Her To Het

Iris drove to Zero Degree Institute.

After passing through multiple layers of security, she finally entered the main laboratory.

To her surprise, Xavier was already there.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

He lazily opened one eye before letting it fall shut again.

“I’m hiding.”

“You have no idea what happened after the last incident. The hospital is overflowing, and I’ve been doing surgery after surgery. I’m completely exhausted.”

Iris’s expression cooled.

“So you’re abandoning your patients just to get some peace and quiet? That doesn’t sound like the Xavier I know.”

Hearing the disappointment in her voice, he sighed dramatically.

“It’s not like that. The surgeries already take up most of my time. The problem is…”

He finally opened his eyes.

“People keep making appointments with me for colds.”

“Colds?”

“I’m a surgeon. I spend all day operating. And whatever little free time I have gets wasted treating people with the sniffles while other doctors are practically sitting around with nothing to do.”

The more he complained, the more aggrieved he sounded.

He wouldn’t have minded performing surgeries nonstop. He wouldn’t even have minded seeing patients all day.

But somehow, people kept coming to him over the tiniest cuts and common colds-things that would have been better handled by a general practitioner.

It was driving him insane.

Iris looked genuinely puzzled.

“Why would someone with a cold specifically make an appointment with a surgeon?”

“I’d love to know myself.”

His tone made him sound like the most wronged man in the world.

Just then, Alden, who had been quietly working in the corner of the lab, looked up.

The patients with colds, they’re all young women, aren’t they?”

Xavier nodded.

“Exactly!”

“I seriously don’t understand. Why would they book an appointment with the busiest surgeon in the hospital over a common cold?”

Alden immediately slapped the table.

“I knew it!” He grinned mischievously. “Bro, next time, just put your phone number or a QR code outside your office. Those girls will probably recover without ever seeing a doctor.”

“Pfft-

Iris burst out laughing.

Even under Xavier’s murderous glare, she remained completely unfazed.

Alden quickly stuck out his tongue and retreated to his workbench.

Xavier covered his face with one hand and took several deep breaths, barely managing to suppress his frustration.

Seeing that it was almost time to leave, Iris reached into her bag and tossed him the item she had brought back from the auction.

He caught it instinctively and looked at her in confusion.

“What’s this?”

“The medicinal catalyst.” She smiled faintly. “The key piece we’ve been missing.”

Before she could say another word, Xavier shot to his feet.

His exhaustion vanished instantly.

Finally, he had something truly worthwhile to work on.

“Anyway, Xavier, since you’re here, I wanted to ask you about something that happened six or seven years ago.”

Xavier paused, the excitement on his face fading slightly.

“Six or seven years ago?”

“Yes.” Iris leaned against the workbench, her expression casual. “Do you remember a time when I disappeared for almost a month?”

Xavier stared at her for a moment.

“Of course I remember.”

“You do?”

“You vanished without telling anyone where you were. Then, almost a month later, you suddenly showed up again with a huge amount of money. That was when we finally had enough funding to keep the lab running.”

He frowned.

“Why? Did you forget?”

Iris’s eyes flickered, but she quickly shook her head.

“No. I just want to confirm something. Stella’s investigation turned up some information about that period, and I wanted to make sure nothing was missing.”

Xavier studied her face for a few seconds.

“Is there something specific you’re trying to find out?”

“Not really. I just want to make sure I have the timeline right.”

Xavier nodded slowly. “Then I probably can’t help you much. You never told us where you went.”

He paused.

“Wait”

His expression suddenly changed.

“I just remembered something.”

Iris looked at him. “What?”

Xavier frowned, as if trying to piece together a memory from years ago.

“If you ever come to me asking about something you can’t remember…”

He slowly looked at Iris.

“You told me to remind you to check Locker Fifteen.!”

Iris froze.

“Locker Fifteen?”

“Yeah. You made me promise.”

Xavier scratched his head.

“I thought it was weird at the time, but you were very serious about it. You said that if you ever asked me about something you couldn’t remember, I had to tell you to check that locker.”

He shrugged.

“I honestly have no idea what you put in there.”

Iris’s gaze lowered.

Locker Fifteen.

She had dozens of lockers throughout the institute, most of them filled with old research notes, experimental materials, and things she no longer needed.

But Locker Fifteen…

She barely used it.
