Chloe’s teacher couldn’t help asking, “Vice Principal Harris, what’s wrong?”

“The Education Bureau just called. The foreign school wants to revoke this year’s scholarship placements.”

Without that reward, the competition itself would lose most of its significance.

Chloe’s heartbeat skipped. The competition couldn’t be canceled. She was counting on a strong performance to strengthen her recommendation application.

“Why would they suddenly cancel it? My daughter still needs this competition for her academic résumé.” Her teacher also looked worried. 3

She had hoped Chloe could secure a recommendation spot.

But recently another student, Hannah, had become much more stable academically.

Chloe’s position was already in danger.

This competition absolutely couldn’t go wrong.

Then the teacher added,

“At least don’t let those five students from Foundation Class participate. They’ll drag everyone else down.”

Vice Principal Harris sighed.

“That’s no longer the issue. At this point, even if we put them back on the team, it may not be enough.”

The Education Bureau had already issued a direct order.

The school had no choice but to restore the five Foundation Class students.

At the same time, they mentally prepared themselves for a humiliating defeat.

Soon afterward, the official competition roster for the match against Lytton High School was released. (2

Not a single Foundation Class student had been removed.

All five remained on the team.

The announcement left countless spectators stunned.

Sophie had been staring at Iris ever since the list came out.

“Iris.” She looked genuinely frightened. “You’re actually terrifying. How does everything you say come true?”

“Quick! Tell me I’ll get into Capital University’s Performing Arts Department!”

“Come on, say it!”

The class monitor spoke up dryly from beside her.

“Iris is a person. Not a magical wishing turtle.”

In another corner of the school, Chloe’s mood had completely soured.

“Did you see the roster?” Claire cautiously brought up the topic.

“Don’t mention it.” Chloe snapped. “Bad luck.”

Just thinking about her name appearing on the same list as those underachievers from Foundation Class made her uncomfortable.

In one week, she’d actually have to compete alongside them.

Claire quickly handed her a cup of tea.

“It’s okay, Chloe. I have a way to make sure you won’t have to compete with them.”

“You focus on preparing. Leave the rest to me.”

Someone else was equally unhappy.

After returning from his trip, he discovered that his status in Foundation Class had completely disappeared.

Everyone was talking about Iris.

Everyone admired Iris.

Everyone listened to Iris.

Sitting in the back row, he stared darkly at the crowd surrounding her.

He’d only been gone for a few days.

How had the entire class changed?

He looked for one of his old followers.

Then realized his former lackeys were standing among Iris’s supporters.

Mason’s face darkened. He slammed his jacket onto the desk and stormed out of the classroom.

The class monitor glanced at one of Mason’s former followers.

“Your boss just left. Aren’t you going after him?”

The boy laughed awkwardly. “What boss? Iris is the only boss I’ve got.”

After everything that had happened recently, he understood perfectly.

Following Iris was the smart choice.

Mason walked into the stairwell and pulled out a cigarette.

Just as he was about to light it, someone tapped his shoulder from behind.

He jumped.

The cigarette fell straight to the floor.

“Claire? When did you get here? You scared the hell out of me.”

Claire crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. “You finally decided to come back?”

“How’s Chloe been? Did she mention me?”

Claire answered without missing a beat. “Of course she did. In fact, she wants your help with something.”

Mason immediately straightened. “What? Someone’s bullying her? I’ll kill him.”

Claire smiled faintly. “It’s nothing that serious. And honestly, you’re the only one who can do it.”

She crooked a finger.

Then she leaned close and whispered something into his ear.

Vice Principal Harris never got his hands on Iris’s precious study guide. He spent a long time regretting it.

Meanwhile, the five students from Foundation Class who had qualified for the competition threw themselves into an intense week of preparation.

They were determined to win.

“I can’t believe the competition is tomorrow already.”

“At least it’s being held at our school this year. We don’t have to travel.”

After a week of brutal training, the five students felt invincible.

The last class of the day was P.E.

After sitting in classrooms all day, everyone was eager to get outside and breathe fresh air.

“Iris, are you heading back to the classroom?”

Iris nodded.

Compared to the noisy athletic field, she preferred the quiet of an empty

Sophie and the others were in the middle of a volleyball game and couldn’t leave, so Iris went upstairs alone.

She pushed open the classroom door and walked toward her desk without looking up.
