At dinner, Richard was thrilled when he heard that Iris had won the competition.
Without hesitation, he transferred another generous allowance into her account.

Before this, he had been worried that her grades might not be enough for a top university and had been debating which school he should donate money to in order to secure her admission.
Now she had earned an M University study–abroad opportunity on her own.
Still…
His daughter had only just come home.
Sending her overseas already felt a little painful.
“M University is a great school. If you want to go, your mother and I fully support you.”
Iris replied calmly, “I don’t plan on attending M University.”
Richard paused with his fork halfway to his mouth. Though he didn’t quite understand, he chose to respect her decision.
“That’s fine. If you don’t like M University, there are plenty of other schools. At least you’ll stay in the country and spend more time with us. Where do you want to go?”
“Capital University.”
Chloe stared at her in disbelief. Did Iris even know her own grades? Capital University? How could she say that with a straight face?
“Maybe you should look at the admission requirements first,” Chloe said.
Richard and Eleanor exchanged a glance.
With Iris’s current grades, Capital University would certainly be difficult.

“Both of them were already mentally calculating how much money and influence they might
need to prepare.
Without even looking up, Iris replied,
“I’m very familiar with my grades.”
Eleanor assumed she was joking. She smiled and humored her.
“Of course. We know you will do well.”
Inside, Chloe sneered.
‘A little money and suddenly people became overconfident. Just wait. Let’s see what kind of score you actually get. Capital University wasn’t a place you could buy your way into.‘
After dinner, Chloe returned to her room.
Her eyes drifted toward the date circled in red on her calendar.
Then to the résumé she had prepared on her computer.
A headache immediately followed.
She had intentionally left a line blank for today’s competition achievement.
Now it would remain empty.
Looks like I’ll have to deal with Hannah instead.
Biting her fingernail, Chloe stared at the screen.
Creak-
The sound of the door opening made her spin around.
“Who’s there?”

A maid named Lily entered carrying freshly laundered clothes.
“It’s me, Miss Chloe. I brought your clean clothes.”
Chloe relaxed and leaned back into her chair.
“Leave them there. Then you can go.”
She paused.
“And the door lock is broken again. It keeps opening on its own. Have someone fix it
tomorrow.”

The competition between Capital Preparatory Academy and Lytton High School had finally concluded.
The ten students who earned study–abroad opportunities all made their decisions within three days.
Some chose to attend M University immediately and give up the college entrance exam.
Others decided to remain in Country A and pursue admission to their dream universities.
The weather was especially gloomy today.
Iris’s seat had recently been moved beside a window.
All she had to do was turn her head to see the dark clouds gathering outside.
Boom!
A flash of violet lightning split the horizon.
A moment later came a deep roll of thunder.
Several students jumped.
Iris glanced at the messages on her phone.

One was from Colin.
His flight left tonight.
The other was a new study plan sent by Hannah.
With Hannah helping, her workload had become much lighter.
“I never expected Mr. Barclay to come see me off either.”
“Neither did I.” Ares met her gaze, clearly in a good mood. “What a coincidence.”

“Hannah, why don’t you wait in the Foundation Class classroom for a bit? There are security cameras there. I need to run home for something. I’ll come back and take you home afterward.”
“That would be too much trouble. They’re already gone. I’ll be fine going home by myself today.”
“No. Iris told me to protect you.” Axel looked completely serious.
