Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79 Take The Fall

After the interviews wrapped up, everyone who had been in the office earlier filed back in.

Chloe Noir returned a few minutes later than the others, claiming she’d stopped by the

restroom.

Mason Reed, however, was nowhere to be seen.

One of the admissions examiners adjusted his glasses before speaking.

“Since Chloe Noir has voluntarily withdrawn from consideration for the early admission recommendation, and Hannah Cole meets all of our requirements, Capital University has decided to offer the spot to Hannah Cole.”

The two examiners had chosen to follow the standard admissions procedure.

Chloe’s eyes immediately filled with tears.

Claire Donovan squeezed her hand comfortingly while shooting a resentful glare at Iris Noir.

“Excuse me, Professors.”

Ding.

Both examiners‘ phones chimed simultaneously.

Iris stood calmly beside the table.

“This footage was recorded on a smartwatch,” she said. “I think you should see it.”

The examiners blinked in surprise.

How had she even sent it to them? She didn’t know their phone numbers–or what kind of phones they used.

Chloe stared at Iris in disbelief.

“I already gave up the recommendation,” Chloe said through clenched teeth. “What exactly are you trying to accomplish?”

Iris lifted an eyebrow.

“You told me that if I had evidence, I should bring it forward.”

A flicker of suspicion crossed the examiners‘ faces.

Without another word, they played the video.

The office was instantly filled with Hannah’s desperate screams.

“Please! Please stop!”

“This recommendation means everything to me!”

Other voices echoed through the recording.

Boys.

Girls.

Several of them.

“You won’t withdraw? Fine. We’ll make the decision for you.”

“If you won’t take medical leave voluntarily, then I guess we’ll just have to make sure you

do.”

“You’re really asking for it.”

The footage appeared to have been captured from Hannah’s perspective.

It clearly recorded the faces of the students surrounding her.

Wearing Capital Preparatory Acaderny uniforms, they had cornered Hannah inside an abandoned restroom and beaten her for nearly half an hour.

Several times, they knocked her unconscious.

Each time, they dumped water over her head to wake her up before continuing.

They knew exactly what they were doing.

They targeted her wrists, knees, and joints–injuries that would prevent her from recovering quickly enough to return for exams.

Even the teachers couldn’t stomach watching it.

They repeatedly fast–forwarded through the footage.

Chloe bit down hard on her lip, unable to take her eyes off the examiners.

She was gambling.

Betting that she’d never appeared clearly enough to be identified.

She’d been careful.

She hadn’t thrown a single punch.

She’d stood behind everyone else, arms folded, watching with cold indifference.

Eventually, after the others had gotten their fill, Mason Reed slung Hannah’s battered body over his shoulder and dumped her into a rain–soaked alley.

Raindrops splattered across the lens.

The image gradually blurred.

The original recording had captured Iris and Ares Barclay afterward, but Iris had edited that part out, making it appear as though the smartwatch had simply stopped functioning after water damage.

“That still doesn’t prove I had anything to do with it!”

As the video ended, Chloe finally relaxed.

There was no clear image of her face.

No recording of her voice.

Several of Mason’s accomplices, however, had been caught in unmistakable detail.

Including Mason himself.

The students involved went pale.

Mason clenched his jaw and glared at Iris.

Her again.

Iris paused the footage on a single frame.

Vice Principal Harris hurried over.

“It’s just a blurry figure,” he argued. “You can’t even make out the person’s face. How can you say that’s Chloe Noir?”

“Exactly!” Chloe said quickly. “Lots of girls have the same body type. You can’t prove that’s

me.”

Tears shimmered in her eyes as she desperately tried to appeal to the adults‘ sympathy.

Without responding, Iris enlarged the image and pointed to the backpack hanging from the figure’s shoulder.

Sophie recognized it immediately.

“That’s a limited–edition designer bag,” she said. “It’s almost impossible to get. Chloe’s the only person at school who has one.”
