Fake Daughter Is The Real Legend (Iris Sutton) novel Chapter 87

Chapter 87 Lunch

“Too many mosquitoes out here. Let’s head back first.”

Ares Barclay glanced at the swarms of insects drifting through the shafts of sunlight filtering between the trees. Then his gaze fell on Iris’s exposed forearms.

Frowning slightly, he reached over and pulled down the sleeves of the shirt she’d casually rolled up to her elbows.

Iris didn’t object.

There was no point staying to watch what happened next anyway.

The two of them turned to leave.

“Mr. Barclay! Mr. Barclay, I was wrong!”

“Please, let me go!”

“I’ll give you as much money as you want! I’ll kneel and apologize if I have to!”

Bound tightly on the ground, Mason Reed writhed like an ugly cocoon.

He stared in despair as the two figures walked away without so much as a glance in his

direction.

No matter how desperately he begged…

Neither of them looked back.

When had Iris become involved with Ares Barclay?

Not far away, several bodyguards stayed behind to clean up the mess.

They pried open the mouths of the unconscious men and poured the drugs down their throats.

At this point, Mason regretted everything so much his intestines felt twisted. He wished he could go back an hour and slap himself. He’d even worried the dosage wouldn’t be strong enough and brought several extra bottles.

Now every last drop was being used on him.

Closing his eyes in resignation, Mason waited for his turn.

He tried to comfort himself.

At least the drugs had a sedative effect.

He’d just pretend he blacked out drunk.

Then he heard footsteps approaching.

Heavy breathing.

Wait…

That sound…

Mason’s eyes flew open.

The bodyguards were gone.

Only he and the four men he’d brought remained inside the cave.

The others had already been drugged.

He alone was conscious.

Terror crashed over him like a tidal wave.

Only now did he truly understand the saying that circulated among Capital City’s elite:

Crossing Mr. Ares Barclay wouldn’t necessarily kill you…

But it could make you wish you were dead.

Ares had intended to ask Iris what she’d come to the restricted area for.

Before he could, she suddenly jogged farther into the woods before crouching down.

Curious, Ares followed.

Only to discover Iris pulling a small shovel and an assortment of tools from her backpack.

She carefully began digging through the earth.

Julian and the others moved instinctively to help.

One glance from Ares froze them in place.

So the group simply stood there and waited patiently.

After a while, Iris finally found what she had been searching for.

She packed the medicinal herbs carefully into her bag before standing up.

“I was helping a friend gather some herbs,” she said casually.

It sounded suspiciously improvised.

Ares merely nodded. “Let’s go.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Taylor had nearly gone out of her mind.

Terrified that Iris might do something irreversible to Mason in the heat of anger, she’d been frantically organizing people to search for them.

The final clip circulating online showed Mason tied up and being interrogated.

Several teachers had already contacted the park authorities, requesting permission to enter the restricted area.

Unfortunately, they were still waiting for approval.

“I can go back by myself from here.”

Iris had already spotted the warning signs marking the edge of the restricted zone.

She turned back toward Ares.

Ares remained unmoved.

“I’ll walk you a little farther.”

The two continued together.

Soon enough, Ares could see Iris’s classmates gathered in the distance.

His gaze swept through the crowd.

The clingy boy who always hovered around her wasn’t there.

Satisfied, he stopped.

He watched as Iris walked back alone.

From afar, Sophie and the others only saw several imposing men escorting her out of the

restricted area.

They assumed the park staff had found her.

“Iris!” Sophie’s eyes were red from crying. “You scared us to death!”

Seeing Iris return unharmed, the knot in Sophie’s chest finally loosened.

Then anger quickly replaced relief.

Clenching her fists, she huffed,

“What about Mason Reed? That jerk!”
