At the base of X Mountain, Hugh Reed sat inside his car. His expression was dark as he stared toward the slope where the students continued their hike.
After a long silence, he spoke coldly.
“Iris Noir… I’ll remember this.”
Hugh Reed had nearly exploded with rage when he first saw the livestream footage.
While cursing his troublesome son nonstop, he immediately started making calls, paying people to scrub every screen recording from the internet.
He spared no expense.
After one round of deletions, any account that dared repost the videos was quickly reported, shut down, or banned through the connections he’d paid for.
Just as he thought he had things under control…
The second livestream appeared.
This time, Mason Reed was tied up on the ground–and he had dragged Hugh into it.
That ungrateful little bastard!
Hugh had no choice but to send people from the family to find Mason and clean up the
mess.
No matter how many times he’d cursed him in his heart, seeing his son lying on a stretcher, bruised and battered, still made his chest tighten.
From childhood until now, Mason had never suffered injuries this severe.
And worse…
It had happened at the hands of a group of men.

The humiliation alone was unbearable.

No.
He would make Iris Noir pay for this
He absolutely would not let her off lightly.
Looking down at the latest message on his phone, Hugh saw that nearly all traces of the videos had been erased from the internet.
Good.
Now it was time for the next step.
“Lou,” he ordered coldly, “bring me the people Mason was close with.”
“And find a few students from struggling families too.”
Meanwhile, back on X Mountain, everyone had finished lunch.
With full stomachs, the climb to the summit went much faster.
Before long, they reached the summit.
Near the overlook stood an old wooden frame that had become one of X Mountain’s most famous traditions. Hundreds of wooden wish tags dangled from its crossbeams, each covered in handwritten hopes, promises, and dreams.
The lower hooks were packed so tightly that visitors competed to toss their tags onto the higher ones instead.
It had become something of a game.
Students crowded around the structure, laughing as they took turns throwing their tags. Some landed perfectly. Others bounced off and had to be retrieved for another attempt.
Near the very top hung a single tag no one could explain.

It swayed gently in the breeze, far above the others.
“Iris, you should make a wish too!” Sophie said excitedly. “I throw yours for you!”
Despite being unable to get even her own tag to stick, Sophie eagerly volunteered.

After several failed attempts, she finally handed Iris’s tag back with an embarrassed laugh.
Iris glanced up at the lone tag near the top.
For the first time, a spark of competitiveness flickered in her eyes.
She tightened her grip on the wooden disc, fixed her gaze on the highest hook, and tossed
The tag sailed upward.
Past dozens of others.
Straight onto the topmost hook.
It caught perfectly, swaying beside the mysterious tag that had been there before.
Silence fell over the summit.
Sophie’s mouth dropped open as she looked from the wooden frame to Iris’s slender arm.”
Was that even possible?
And who on earth had placed the other tag that high?
After a short break, the students were herded down the mountain and back onto the buses.
They still had evening study sessions waiting at school.
Everyone was exhausted.
Students slumped over one another, fast asleep.

Glancing at the classmates sleeping beside her, Iris pulled out her phone and messaged Zane Walker to ask about Mason’s situation.
<blockquote>[Boss, you’ve got to admit it–the old man really has connections. They managed to wipe out all the recordings.]</blockquote>
<blockquote>[I think their family has people in that field. The moment anyone uploads the videos, the account gets banned.]</blockquote>
<blockquote>[After deleting everything, they might try fabricating evidence to frame you next. What should we do?]</blockquote>
Iris glanced around. Her classmates were all asleep.

[Do you still have backup copies of the videos? Send me one.]
Zane immediately forwarded the recordings.
Reaching into her backpack, Iris pulled out a foldable projection keyboard and connected it to her phone.
Within moments….
She had assembled a miniature computer.
At this point, the two videos had vanished completely from the internet.
Entertainment scandals.
Celebrity gossip.
Fresh trending topics.
Public attention had already shifted elsewhere.
Hugh Reed had barely begun relaxing when he noticed another account uploading both
videos again.
