Seeing the grim expressions on the two officers’ faces, Hugh suddenly felt a surge of panic. Even so, he forced himself to remain calm on the surface.
“Officers,” he said, “may I take a look at the folder? The evidence provided by Iris may not necessarily be authentic.”
The two officers exchanged glances before turning the computer screen toward him.
“Evidence can be forged,” one of them said, “but your company’s official seal and your personal stamp can’t.”
Displayed on the screen was evidence showing Hugh accepting bribes and using his position to arrange for relatives and paying families to gain admission to the school. To ensure their loyalty, he had even made them sign written pledges.
The Reed family had used the money Hugh collected to operate a loan-sharking business. The documents also detailed several other illegal dealings the family had kept hidden from the public.
There were even videos Mason had recorded of students being bullied-incidents Hugh had covered up, either by paying people off or threatening them into silence.
“That’s impossible!”
Hugh shot to his feet, nearly knocking over his chair.
All of those files had been stored on his computer behind two layers of complex passwords.
How could they have ended up in Iris’s hands?
“Mr. Hugh Reed,” one of the officers said, “you are suspected of corruption and bribery. Your son, Mason, is suspected of kidnapping and intentional assault. Please cooperate with our investigation.”
The students seated beside Hugh watched the sudden reversal unfold before their eyes. Uncertainty and hesitation spread across their faces.

Having completely lost his patience now that the balance of power had shifted, Hugh planted both hands on the table and stared at Iris.
“Did you get your parents to help you?”
Mason had clearly told him that Iris had only recently returned to the Noir family and didn’t have a good relationship with her parents.
Iris had no interest in wasting another word on him.
After briefly speaking with the two officers, she stood and prepared to leave.
Hugh tried to chase after her for answers, but the older officer stopped him. Meanwhile, the younger female officer escorted Iris and Sophie outside.
The moment they stepped out of the police station, they saw a luxury SUV parked at the
curb.
As soon as Iris emerged, the driver’s side window rolled down, revealing Julian’s familiar face behind the wheel.
“Miss Iris,” he called out, “let me drive you and your classmate home.”
It was already late, and getting a ride from that location at this hour wouldn’t be easy. Noticing that Sophie seemed uneasy in the dark, Iris finally agreed and got into Ares’s car.
Sophie’s family was fairly well-off, but she’d never seen such a luxurious vehicle before.
After getting in, she was curious about everything around her, yet too intimidated to touch anything. She could only sneak glances here and there.
It was also her first time meeting someone like Ares.
She barely dared to breathe.
After greeting him politely, she sat rigidly in her seat.

Who in Capital didn’t know who Ares Barclay was?
On the surface, he seemed refined and approachable.
But anyone who truly crossed him would be finished.
Ares handed Iris a bottle of water and thoughtfully unscrewed the cap for her.
“Everything settled?”
“Mhm.”

After a few casual exchanges between them, Sophie’s entire impression of powerful people was overturned.
As expected of two big shots.
For the first time ever, she found Ares unexpectedly down-to-earth.
Sophie had never been one to stay quiet. Watching the two of them chat while she sat there bored out of her mind, she eventually decided to join the conversation.
As she enthusiastically described how cool Iris had looked back in the mediation room, Ares rested his chin on one hand and listened with genuine attention.
He could already picture the scene in his mind.
Still, there was one thing that surprised him.
“How did you do it?”
Iris didn’t want to expose her true identity. “A friend of mine helped. We made him think the videos had already been deleted. In reality, we used his network connection to access Hugh’s computer and retrieve the confidential files.”
Hugh was an amateur. Breaking through his passwords hadn’t been difficult.
Ares nodded before suddenly thinking of something. “Could you introduce me to that

She could help if necessary. After alt, Ares had helped her more than once.
