“Everything disappeared that fast?”

Standing in the hospital corridor with the invoice for the remaining balance clutched in his hand, Hugh could hardly believe it. He had assumed the person behind the videos and pop- up ads was some elite hacker.
He never expected the hacker he’d hired on a whim to be even better.

By the time he checked the platform again, the account had already been deactivated, and every trace of the pop–up ads had vanished.
The hacker had assured him that the copies stored on Iris’s phone had been wiped as well.
She wouldn’t have brought a laptop or a flash drive on a hiking trip. The videos had to be on her phone, and she wouldn’t have had time to make another backup.
Only then did the weight pressing on Hugh’s chest begin to lift.
“Lou, what about the people we contacted earlier?”
“Mr. Reed, it’s all been taken care of. We’ve already paid part of the money, and we kept proof of the transactions.”
Hugh nodded, pleased.
Back at school, frustration spread through the student body.
“Huh? Why did the pop–up disappear?”
“Do we even have to ask? Mr. Reed must’ve stepped in.”
This wasn’t the first time Hugh had pulled strings to clean up a mess. Everyone had long since grown used to it, though they couldn’t help sighing at the realization that, once again, connections seemed to win.
Chloe, meanwhile, was in an exceptionally good mood. On the ride home, she was already

planning how to casually mention the whole ordeal to Richard and Eleanor.
Before long, the final bell rang.

Students were packing their bags when they looked up to find two police officers standing at the classroom door.
“Is Iris Noir here?”
Iris didn’t look surprised.
Slipping her backpack over one shoulder, she rose to her feet and prepared to leave with them.
Sophie quickly caught her arm.
“Iris! Do you want us to come with you? Do you need help?”
“No.”
Yet once they reached the police car, Iris could only look at Sophie in helpless resignation.
She had said repeatedly that everything would be fine, but Sophie hadn’t been convinced and had insisted on tagging along.
Iris had only transferred recently and still didn’t fully understand Hugh’s methods. Sophie, on the other hand, had witnessed enough of his past behavior to know how he operated.
Maybe having her there would help.
The officers escorted them into a mediation room.
Hugh was already seated inside with several students.
Some were from Foundation Class. Others came from different classes altogether.
None of them dared meet Iris’s gaze.

A few moments later, a male officer and a female officer entered and sat down between the
two parties.
“Here’s the situation,” the male officer began. “Mr. Reed has filed a police report alleging that Iris Noir seriously injured his son and orchestrated an assault in which three men sexually assaulted him.”
He turned toward Iris. “Miss Iris, is that true?”
“No.”
The answer came immediately.
Without hesitation.
Both officers blinked in surprise.
Hugh had expected her denial.
Adopting the expression of a heartbroken father, he let out a pained sigh.
“Not true?” he repeated. “These students are classmates of both you and my son. Why don’t we hear what they have to say? Let’s see whether you can keep denying it after that.”
Under the table, Lou nudged the nervous boy beside him.
The bespectacled student visibly flinched before lowering his head and reciting the script he’d memorized.
“Iris and Mason didn’t get along. They were always at odds at school…”
Sophie couldn’t hold back any longer. She slapped a hand against the table and shot to her feet.
“How can you say that? Mason was the one who kept targeting Iris!”

Lou raised both hands in a placating gesture. “Please calm down, classmate. There’s no need to get upset.”
One by one, the remaining students repeated what they supposedly had witnessed.
According to their testimonies, Iris and Hannah Cole had been close friends. Hannah had clashed with Mason, so Iris had constantly opposed him.
They even claimed that during the competition against Lytton High School, Iris had secretly slipped Mason laxatives, causing him to suffer severe diarrhea and land in the hospital.
Sophie’s teeth clenched with anger.
It was one thing for Mason’s former followers to lie for him.
But students from entirely different classes?
People who barely knew either of them?
How many had Hugh paid off?
Throughout it all, Iris remained perfectly calm.
Only when the first student began speaking did she glance at him.
That single look was enough to make his voice shake

Iris shifted her gaze from Hugh to the officers.
