Hannah could tell there was some history between Vanessa and Vivian, but she wisely kept out of it. Sitting beside Iris, she focused on her meal and said nothing.

The warm, lively atmosphere that had filled the house moments earlier had all but disappeared after Vanessa and Olivia arrived. The dining room felt noticeably more tense.

Trying to keep things from becoming too awkward, Vivian changed the subject.

“Where’s brother–in–law? Why didn’t he come with you?”

At the mention of her husband, Vanessa immediately brightened.

“Oh, him? He’s been incredibly busy lately. Have you heard of Stellar Venture? That investment firm that’s been making headlines everywhere? They were very impressed with his project and invested a substantial amount of money. He’s been tied up with work ever

Without commenting, Iris placed a chicken drumstick onto Noah’s plate.

Vivian knew very little about Samuel’s business affairs, so she simply smiled politely.

“That’s wonderful.”

The praise immediately inflated Vanessa’s ego.

Naturally, the conversation shifted toward the topic she had come here to discuss in the first place.

“Of course it’s wonderful. My husband is successful, and my daughter is just as impressive. Olivia’s seeing someone now too–the mayor’s son, Ethan Vaughn. He’s handsome, talented, attends Capital University, and he’s completely devoted to her.”

Olivia lowered her head shyly.

“Despite her words, her eyes drifted toward Iris.

She wanted to see some reaction.
