After Hannah and Noah left with the dog, Vivian sat quietly for a moment before patting the

seat beside her.

“Iris, come sit with me.”

Once Iris sat down, Vivian took her hand.

“Everything I said to your mother and Olivia today was true. I’ve already decided what to do with the Hart family inheritance.” She gave Iris’s hand a gentle squeeze. “I want you to have it. Noah and I can support ourselves.”

Iris shook her head.

“I don’t want the money.”

“Don’t be stubborn.” Vivian smiled. “Take it. After the college entrance exam, find a good school. If you need to repeat your senior year, then do it. Don’t worry about anything at home. Whatever happens, you need to go to college.”

“Aunt Vivian, I really don’t need it. And I’ll get into college this year.”

Vivian simply smiled.

She knew Iris’s grades well enough. With so little time left before the exam, getting into college would be difficult. Since Noah had never mentioned that Iris had been tutoring him, Vivian naturally assumed Iris was only trying to reassure her.

“Of course you will,” she said. “I believe in you. Either way, studying harder now won’t

hurt.”

A few minutes later, she returned from her bedroom with a bank card and pressed it into

Iris’s hand.

After refusing several times, Iris finally accepted it.

She had no intention of spending the money herself. Vivian was too soft–hearted, and if

Vanessa kept coming back, there was every chance she’d eventually wear her down. At least this way, the inheritance would be safe.

The conversation shifted when Vivian learned that Hannah had already secured admission to Capital University. /

“Wait, you got recommended straight into Capital University?”

Her eyes immediately lit up.

“Then you should spend more time helping Iris. Noah’s only preparing for his high school entrance exams. Iris is the one taking the college entrance exam.”

“With Noah’s current grades, some focused preparation should be enough to get him into Capital Preparatory Academy,” Iris said. “As for me, I have my own plans.”

Seeing how firm she was, Vivian didn’t push further.

Iris had always been independent, and getting Noah into Capital Preparatory Academy was already enough to make Vivian happy.

“All right. Then if Hannah doesn’t have anywhere to stay, she’s welcome to stay here.”

Hannah had liked Vivian from the moment they met.

“Thank you, Aunt Vivian.”

Then she turned to Iris and added confidently, “Don’t worry. I’ve already looked over Noah’s grades. With the right study plan, he’ll definitely get into Capital Preparatory Academy.”

Later that evening, Zane arrived to pick Iris up.

As soon as she got into the car, he noticed she was unusually quiet.

“What’s wrong, Boss?”

“Nothing.”

But Vivian’s words had reminded her of something.

The night before, unable to sleep, she had gone into the garden for some fresh air and accidentally overheard Richard and Eleanor talking in the living room.

“Do you think Iris has any chance of getting into Capital University with her current grades?”

Eleanor sighed.

“I’ve looked at her report cards. With this little time left, it’ll be difficult.”

After a brief silence, Richard replied, “Even if it’s difficult, we should still try. Iris rarely asks. for anything. If this is something she wants, I don’t want her to be disappointed.”

The memory faded.

Looking out the window, Iris suddenly said, “Handle the company’s affairs yourself for a while. Don’t come to me unless it’s important.”

Zane immediately straightened in his seat. “What happened?”

“Nothing.”

“Then why does that sound like a major life decision?”

“I’m going to start preparing for the college entrance exam.”

For a moment, Zane forgot he was driving. “You mean… high school exam preparation?”

“Yes.”

The word sounded so absurd coming from Iris that he almost laughed.

“You’re actually going to study?”

“I need to familiarize myself with recent exam trends and question patterns.”

There was another reason, though she didn’t say it aloud.

She didn’t want the people who cared about her worrying about something as trivial as her grades.

Her phone buzzed.

A message from Emma.

Emma wanted to meet up.

After a brief glance, Iris declined.

At the Barclay estate, Emma stared at the rejection message before immediately sitting upright and calling Ares.

The call connected.

“Uncle! I found an opportunity for you!”

Every time Emma used that tone, Ares knew trouble was coming.

“Whatever it is, don’t get too excited.” A pause. “And keep the receipt.”

Emma’s enthusiasm evaporated. “That’s not what this is!”

“Have you finished your homework?”

“…No.” Then she caught herself. “Wait! That’s not the point!”

She slapped her forehead.

How did he always manage to change the subject?

“Sister Iris turned me down because she’s studying for the college entrance exam. You should send her study materials or practice tests. If she scores well, maybe she’ll like you
