Back at the Kain’s estate, Willow had just rushed home, storming up to Gresham.

“What’s going on? Why did you make me come back so suddenly? Elmer’s still at the station!” she asked.

“If I hadn’t made you come back, the entire Kain family would’ve gone under!” Gresham snapped, looking grim.

Jasper sat off to the side, his face equally tense. Business had already been terrible lately, they’d somehow pissed off Alliance 749, and several major deals had been intercepted. Now, with this mess on top of everything, the Kains were on the verge of collapse.

“I thought Noelle got kicked out of Melrose Manor? Why would they do anything?” Willow asked, confused.

“She may not be in their good graces, but she’s still technically one of theirs. The man in charge at Melrose Manor wasn’t about to sit back and let something happen to her right under his nose. She pulled out a form from her backpack and started filling it out.

“SAT application?” Lucas passed behind her, munching on an apple. When he glanced down and saw what she was writing, he nearly burst out laughing. “Noelle, with your grades? You’re gonna take the SAT? If you really wanna go to college, maybe Sebastian should just donate a few buildings. That’s way more realistic.”

“Who says trade school students can’t take the SAT?” Noelle shot him a look. “Who knows, maybe I’ll end up scoring top in the country.”

Lucas laughed even harder.

Noelle narrowed her eyes. Willow had already called her multiple times, but she’d declined every one.

Of course she was panicking now. Her precious baby boy was facing jail time.

“Just letting him rot in jail would be too easy,” Noelle said coldly.

Mercy wasn’t even on the table. After everything Elmer had done to her, jail alone wasn’t enough.

Noelle knew exactly how to hit where it hurt most. If you really wanted to make someone suffer, you had to go after what they cared about the most.

And for Elmer, that was racing.
