Chapter 34: Fighting for Her
Aiden’s POV
The door clicked shut behind me, the sound final.
I had lost her.
I stood in the silent, dim hallway, my forehead pressed against the cool wood. I was still trying to find a way to get Irina back, but the look in her eyes told me it was too late.

I returned to my room, the party was still happening, but I couldn’t care less. Debbie was there; she would be the Shadow’s Pack representative. I needed some time alone. If this were my pack, I would have run to the forest, but here…
I didn’t feel comfortable.
Not a bit.
“I told you to think, you didn’t listen,” Arlo scolded me.
I can’t even retort because he is right. I may have cost us or a mate.
Forever.
I opened the door to my room, only to find the only person I truly hated right now, standing in
the middle.
Lancer.
“What are you doing in my room?” I asked with a growl that vibrated through the floorboards. My control, already stretched to its limit, was a thin wire about to snap.
Lancer turned, a smug, infuriating smile playing on his lips. He looked like he owned the place, like he owned everything. “Aiden. I was just looking for you. I heard you were after a certain maid, one who was my mate, Irina.”
Hearing her name on his tongue was the final spark. I was already in a bad mood and he just made it worse.
“Get out,” I snarled, my voice low and deadly.
His smile widened. “Why should I? I’m just asking about a member of my pack, you shouldn’t get so defensive in a pack that isn’t yours.”
“You are entering the room of an Alpha. I could think of it as a declaration of war,” I snapped

back. “Do you want me to take it as such?”
“Is that the card you want to play, Alpha Aiden? I was just wondering why you were so interested in an omega.”
“An omega who was once your mate, right?” I was not going to let him win this time.
I let Lancer’s words get inside my head, and because of that, I hurt Irina.
“She was my mate, but you have always been in love with her; perhaps you thought she would be an easy target now that she is only an omega.”
I wanted to snap his neck.

“You’re right,” I said, my voice dropping from a roar to a deadly calm. “I’ve always been in love with Irina, and I let you get inside my head with your stupid rumors.”
“What rumors?” He asked, feigning ignorance.
“Don’t act like you don’t know, Lancer. Even Serim is aware of your antics, which is why Shadow Pack is questioning if we should continue our amicable treatment with Blue Moon.”
Lancer’s smug facade faltered.
“You wouldn’t do that to your pack; it would be stupid to be on bad terms with Blue Moon,” He countered, but his voice lacked conviction.
He knew I didn’t need Blue Moon. Quite the contrary, Shadow Pack was big enough to stand on its own, and we had enough allies to go against Blue Moon.
“You think so? I suggest you take a trip to my pack; perhaps you can’t remember right how big we actually are.”
The color drained from Lancer’s face. The bluff was called. He had overplayed his hand, relying on the old dynamics from when we trained. He didn’t understand I was no longer that teenager who would fall into his lies.
“You’re bluffing,” he said, but the tremor in his voice betrayed him.
“I never bluff,” I replied, my tone flat. “The only reason I haven’t already severed ties is out of a residual respect for Serim. But my patience for you and this pack is wearing thin. I didn’t like that you mistreated an omega because you discovered she was traded when she was a kid.”
Lancer growled. “You mistreated her as well.”
I tried not to flinch at his accusation, but in the end, I couldn’t because he was right. I had not been fair to Irina. I can blame Lancer all I want, but in the end, the only one responsible for

what happened between us is me.
I should have known better.
“I did, but at least I can see the truth now, contrary to the rest of the people in this pack.”
Claim
“Are you talking about Julie?” He questioned, the tone in his voice told me he cared about her.
Perhaps Lancer was into Julie. From what I’ve heard, he had rejected Irina quite publicly, but maybe I should ask around to find out what happened. Lancer was also obsessed with Irina; there is no way he would reject her so blatantly just because she is no longer an Alpha’s daughter.
“I’m talking about everything. Blaming a baby for what happened years ago is stupid. My anger blinded me, but if you think about it with a cool head, you will realize how absurd your arguments are,” I said, already growing tired of this conversation. “Now, if we are done, leave my room.”
“You came here for Irina, didn’t you?”
He isn’t even listening to me…
“Lancer,” I took a final step, crowding him. Since I was a head taller, I forced him to look up to maintain eye contact. “What I do or don’t do with Irina is my problem. You might be an omega, but I’m an Alpha, meaning my rank is above yours. If you continue to pry into my private life, I’m going to take this to the Elders, break my relationship with your pack, and make sure you don’t forget who is more powerful. Are we clear?”
He swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
The fire in his eyes told me he was ready to keep fighting, but if he did, he would lose more than he could gain.
“Get out,” I repeated, the words laced with a finality that brooked no argument.
The door clicked shut, and the silence in the room was profound.
I may have won this fight against Lancer, but this victory meant absolutely nothing.
You mistreated her as well.
He was right. I made so many mistakes I can’t fix because Irina now hates me.
walked to the window, placing my hands on the sill and staring out at the dark, unfamiliar landscape of Blue Moon. Irina was set to leave tomorrow. She was ready to venture into the wild forest rather than coming to my pack with me, and the only person I could blame… was

I could tell her to go to Silver Fang, at least that way I would know she was safe.

The door suddenly burst open, and I was ready to kill whoever decided to interrupt my quiet night until I recognized the scent.
“Aiden! I know you are the Alpha of the strongest pack in the region, but what the hell?” Debbie stood in the doorway, her hands on her hips, her face a mask of fury. “I just had to smooth things over with Serim because Lancer came looking like he’d been through a meat grinder! What did you do?”
I didn’t turn from the window. “I reminded him of his place.”
“By rearranging his face?” she snapped, stepping into the room and shutting the door. “We’re here as guests, Aiden!”
Finally, I turned to face her. “I didn’t hit him if that’s what you are implying. I just stated some facts. If his face looked like that, he might have fallen somewhere.”
“Yeah, that sounds very convincing,” Arlo said.
I didn’t reply to him.
“You are going to get us into a war with Blue Moon, something I’ll gladly accept, but once we are out of this place,” She grumbled back.
I didn’t have the energy to deal with her anymore, so I turned around once more.
Debbie noticed I was not open to any more questions, but that didn’t make her leave.
“Something happened with your mate, didn’t it?” I didn’t answer, I just closed my eyes and took a deep breath. “If you got angry at Lancer because he did something to your mate, then I justify your punching him.”
“I already said I didn’t punch him,” I snapped back. “Leave my room, I want to be alone.”
She rolled her eyes. “Peachy.” Debbie didn’t leave. Instead, she leaned against the doorframe, crossing her arms. “So that’s it? You’re just going to stand here and brood? I’m guessing things didn’t go well with your mate.”
“She is going to leave tomorrow. I told her to come to our pack, but she prefers to be a rogue.
“So you are giving up? You’re going to let her walk away tomorrow?”
“What choice do I have?” I growled. “She made it abundantly clear that the idea of being with
